What Happened To Andrew Peter Garforth? Murderer Jailed For Killing 9 Year Old School Girl Ebony Simpson

On August 19, 1992, Ebony Jane Simpson was murdered in Bargo, New South Wales, Australia. Simpson, who was nine years old at the time, was kidnapped, raped, and asphyxiated to death after Andrew Peter Garforth drowned her.

Garforth was given a life sentence without the chance of parole after entering a guilty plea to the offenses. Garforth admitted to the crime after being taken into custody by the police and displayed no regret for his acts during the confession and judicial proceedings.

He admitted to killing Simpson, and in 1993 he was given a life sentence. Garforth’s papers were ordered to be stamped “never to be released” after Justice Peter Newman declined to set a non-parole period.

Where Is Andrew Peter Garforth Now?

For the crime, Andrew Peter Garforth is currently serving a life sentence in jail without the possibility of parole.

The High Court of Australia rejected Garforth’s request for special leave despite his appeal. It is one of two cases like it for which special leave was denied.

When Garforth objected to his sentence, the judges discussed what life in prison meant and noted that in such cases, the community’s interest in retribution, deterrence, and the protection of children and the community may so strongly outweigh any consideration for rehabilitation that a life sentence becomes the only option.

Learn About Andrew Peter Garforth Details

Andrew Peter Garforth is also a suspect in the 1979 murder of Felicia Marie Wilson, a 19-year-old West Australian living in Kwinana, Perth, which remains unsolved.

On January 10, 1979, at about 4.30 p.m., Miss Wilson, a former Miss West Coast finalist, was attacked as she walked home from work at the Kwinana Community Health Centre. She was stripped nude, slashed, and hit in the head with a 27 kg block of limestone.

Until early in the 1990s, when WA detectives learned from NSW police about a guy who allegedly had nightmares about Miss Wilson, the manhunt fell cold.

Further details concerning Miss Wilson’s death that connected Garforth, who was living nearby at the time, to the unsolved crime were available to NSW police by 1994. The inquiry is still ongoing.

Ebony Simpson’s Cause Of Death Was Murder

On August 19, 1992, Simpson got off her school bus. Because her mother typically met her at the bus stop that day but was otherwise occupied, she had Simpson’s elder brother get her and drive her home after his bus arrived.

Sadly, Simpson was not there when his bus pulled up later than usual. Simpson opted to begin her short-distance walk home after failing to spot her brother at the bus stop. Simpson anticipated meeting her brother at home.

The police assumed right away that Simpson had been abducted rather than escaped. A man who was spotted working on his automobile close to where Simpson got off the bus was the subject of suspicion.

Over 100 people, consisting of police, firefighters, members of the State Emergency Service, and volunteers started looking for Simpson in the area.

Police discovered Simpson’s corpse in a dam at a wildlife refuge close to her home on August 21, two days later. When Andrew Peter Garforth was detained later that day, he admitted to the murder.
