Harris and his family were also helping the victim’s family search for her. However, her dead body was found in the woods behind the house after a day of the search.
It may be shocking, but 12-year-old Harris was called for interrogation because investigators claimed he provided inconsistent facts about where he was and what he was doing when the girl was missing.
Harris and his mother Cyndi were summoned to the stationhouse two weeks after Devan’s death was discovered. The police chief, Thomas Vaughn, was the one who interrogated him.
According to the audio of the interview, as mentioned by ABC, Vaughn repeatedly asked Harris if he killed Devan. Although the kid initially denied involvement, he later confessed out of pressure resulting in him being charged with murder despite being innocent.
Even from the victim’s own family, there were possible suspects as they had past criminal records. But, the authorities got on Harris’s back instead and wrongfully convicted him.
