Can I infect someone if I am undetectable?
Having an undetectable viral load does mean that there is not enough HIV in your body fluids to pass HIV on during relationship. In other words, you are not infectious. For as long as your viral load stays undetectable, your chance of passing on HIV to a sexual partner is zero.
Is Undetectable the same as negative?
If you’re undetectable, you will still test positive for HIV. This is expected, and doesn’t mean that your treatment is not working.
Can you go from undetectable to detectable?
People also become detectable when they stop taking their HIV medications or take them only partially. It may take between a week to several weeks after stopping HIV treatment for HIV to become detectable again, but people will see the levels of virus in their body go up to detectable levels.
How long can you stay undetectable?
A person’s viral load is considered “durably undetectable” when all viral load test results are undetectable for at least six months after their first undetectable test result. This means that most people will need to be on treatment for 7 to 12 months to have a durably undetectable viral load.
Should I take PrEP if my partner is undetectable?
PrEP and/ or condoms are not necessary to prevent HIV when the sexual partner living with HIV has an undetectable viral load. Having an undetectable viral load, using PrEP, and using condoms are all HIV prevention strategies that people can choose to use alone or in combination.
