Ping amounts of 100 ms and below are average for most broadband connections. In gaming, any amounts below a ping of 20 ms are considered exceptional and “low ping,” amounts between 50 ms and 100 ms range from very good to average, while a ping of 150 ms or more is less desirable and deemed “high ping.”
What is WIFI ping?
Latency (or Ping) is the reaction time of your connection-how quickly your device gets a response after you’ve sent out a request. A low latency (fast ping) means a more responsive connection, especially in applications where timing is everything (like video games).
Why is my ping so high but my internet is good?
The issue of high ping in online games may also occur even when you have good internet speed. … It could be your internet connection, your PC, the game settings, or some other factors that could be leading to a high ping speed.

How to improve ping
- Improve WiFi signal strength.
- Find the best WiFi frequency band for your router.
- Hardwire with an ethernet connection.
- Update/upgrade network hardware.
Does a better router improve ping?
This is usually referred to as “ping.” A better router can improve latency, but only to a certain degree. For home internet, it’s rare to get a server connection faster than approximately 30 milliseconds (that’s three-hundredths of a second), and 50-100 milliseconds is more common.
Why does my ping keep going up and down?

How can I lower my ping without ethernet?
Try powerline network devices. These tend to work in most houses. The only latency it will reduce is between your pc and your router but that likely is the thing causing the 700+ms. Hard to say what values you will get in most cases it is only maybe 10ms more than a ethernet cable.

It’s true that expensive routers give higher maximum bit rates when in a test environment. But they don’t add very much in a realistic home environment. Any brand name router in the $60 range with gigabit Ethernet ports will do a fine job.
Does router affect Ping?
Probably not. The biggest thing you can do to improve your performance is to purchase a higher-tier internet speed with a larger bandwidth. As you’ve probably figured out, the 4 mbps you’re getting is nowhere near the limit of your router (150 mbps).
