Lindsey Caroline Vonn is a former World Cup alpine ski racer for the United States Ski Team. Lindsey Caroline Kildow was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Linda Anne and Alan Lee Kildow. Vonn grew up in Burnsville, Minnesota, in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Vonn’s father is of Irish descent, while her mother is of German and Norwegian descent.
Don Kildow, Lindsey Kildow’s grandfather, taught her to ski in Milton, Wisconsin. As a child, she learned to ski at Buck Hill Ski and Snowboard in Burnsville, Minnesota, and on family vacations that included 16-hour drives from Minnesota to Vail. “I’d be in the back under a sleeping bag, and she’d (her mother) be driving and singing along to some Eric Clapton tape,” Vonn said in an interview with The New York Times.
Lindsey Vonn won the overall World Cup title in 2008. Vonn was only the second American woman to do so, after Tamara McKinney in 1983. American Bode Miller won the men’s title, completing the United States’ first men’s and women’s overall title sweep in 25 years (McKinney and Phil Mahre in 1983). Vonn also won the World Cup downhill season title and the U.S.
What does Lindsey Vonn do for a living?
Currently, Lindsey Vonn is also a businesswoman: she is the face of the ski equipment brand Yniq, in which she has invested since 2019. Vonn will also embark on a reading tour in 2022 in support of her biography “Rise,” in which she reflects on her 20-plus years in the ski circus.
