Vanessa Lynne Williams was born on March 18, 1963, in Tarrytown, Greenburgh, New York, the USA to parents, Helen Tinch and Milton Augustine Williams Jr., who are both music teachers.
Vanessa L. Williams was brought up in Millwood, New York. She and her younger brother Christopher James Williams grew up in Westchester County, New York City. With regards to her educational background, Vanessa attended Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, New York.
Vanessa L. Williams later proceeded to Syracuse University, joining Syracuse’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, Department of Drama as a musical theatre major in 1981. She later obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse in May 2008 after she had left earlier following her win at the Miss America beauty pageant.
Vanessa L. Williams rose into the spotlight as the first African-American woman to receive the Miss America title after she was crowned Miss America in 1984 in the year 1983. She later made waves in the music industry with her first album in 1988 and even made her television debut on a 1984 episode of The Love Boat.
