Dwight Gooden’s net worth, biography, fact, career, awards and life story

Dwight Gooden net worth: Dwight Gooden is a retired professional baseball player who has a net worth of $300 thousand. Known affectionately as “Doc Gooden”, he had a reputation for being one of the best pitchers in baseball during his career peak in the middle and late 1980s. Unfortunately Dwight’s life off the field has been blemished with a handful of controversies and financial problems. During his career he earned the inflation-adjusted equivalent of $50 million ($36 million total in actual dollars). Gooden’s debut in the major leagues came in the year 1984, when the 19-year-old was picked up by the New York Mets. He quickly developed a reputation as an intimidating pitcher, with a 98 mile-per-hour fastball, and an arching curve-ball. His skills on the mound earned him several nicknames, not the least of which is “Dr. K,” “K” being the baseball scoreboard symbol for a strike out. Just a year after his debut, in 1985, Gooden made one of the most impressive statistical achievements in baseball, racking up 24 wins, 268 strikeouts, and a 1.53 ERA, the second lowest record in the “live ball” era of the sport. Gooden was a New York icon during this period of his career, with speculation about his chances of being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame taking place despite his extremely young age. Unfortunately, not all times were good for Doc. While he was playing, Doc struggled with alcohol and cocaine abuse. Those substance issues lasted for many years. In December 1986, a routine traffic stop resulted in Gooden getting into a brawl that involved 22 officers. He eventually paid a $3 million settlement related to the case. In 2002, Gooden was arrested in Tampa, Florida for driving while intoxicated with a suspended license. He has been arrested several times since for a variety of charges. Doc Gooden Financial Problems: Gooden earned $36 million during his career in Major League Baseball. His biggest contract was a three-year $15.45 million deal that he signed in 1991. His biggest one-year salary came during the 1993-1994 season when he earned $5.9 million from the Mets. Tragically, by 2003, Gooden no longer had the means to support his family and his family forced out of their $2 million Florida dream home. When he and his wife separated, Gooden was ordered to pay $13,600 per month in support despite his claim that this number far exceeded is personal income. At the time, his only source of income was a largely ceremonial $100,000 salary that was paid for him to be an assistant to Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.
