In 2006, Fury won a bronze medal at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. The following year he clinched the European Union Junior Championship and was named the third best junior heavyweight boxer, despite losing to David Price when he needed to secure a spot at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. This disappointment prompted Fury to become a professional fighter who already had an amateur record of 31 wins (26 KO’s) and 4 losses.
Boxing Record
At the young age of 20, Tyson Fury made his professional debut in a first round match against Hungarian Bela Gyongyosi, whom he defeated by TKO to herald his arrival on the boxing scene. After seven fights, all won by KO in the first four rounds, Fury received his first real test in September 2009 from compatriot John McDermott. The fight was close, although Fury was crowned the winner on points in disputed circumstances. The pair tried again in a couple of months but this time Fury knocked out his opponent and won his first title, the English heavyweight title.
Fury set a 14-0 record for fellow undefeated heavyweight contender Dereck Chisora for the UK and Commonwealth heavyweight titles, which he captured by unanimous decision. Fury continued to climb the ranks, adding the Irish heavyweight title to his collection before taking on American boxer Vinny Maddalone for the vacant WBO Inter-continental heavyweight title, which he also won.
However, in 2018, Tyson Fury was able to reapply and get his boxing license back. He has two wins so far and is now set to fight undefeated American boxer Deontay Wilder for the WBC heavyweight title.
