Types of door sweeps

To get started, and to make sure you choose the most appropriate door sweep, you need to measure the gap between the door and the threshold. You need to know the door width and the door thickness, as well. This’ll help you select and custom fit the best door sweep.

Ideally, the sweep should be installed so that is comes in contact with the bevel on the threshold but where the sweep will not touch the flooring material (i.e. carpet, tile) as the door swings open and closed. (These aren’t meant to sweep the floor!)

A door sweep seals gaps between the bottom of the door and the threshold. You’ll save money on heating and cooling as well as protect against moisture, dust and insects with a weatherstripping door seal strip in place.

Installing and Maintaining a Door Sweep

Door sweeps should always be applied on the outside face of exterior doors. This prevents snow, dirt, and pests of all varieties from collecting underneath your door.

10: Seal Your Doors

To keep insects from crawling under your door, install a sturdy steel or aluminum threshold under the door. For even better protection, combine this with a door sweep. Choose nylon brush sweeps over vinyl or neoprene, as they offer the best protection against bugs.

Remove the old door sweep or bottom weatherstrip from the bottom of your door. Both are types of seals that, among other things, keep water from coming in under your door. Door sweeps typically screw to the inside of your door, so use a screwdriver to remove the sweep.

Eliminate Them Totally

Instead of killing them one by one, the easiest way to get rid of these insects is to spray them using anti-flea spray. To be more effective, spray it to the whole room including your wall, ceiling, and furniture’s.

Bugs are naturally attracted to bright colors like white, yellow or orange. Colors like green and blue won’t register as vividly when seen in the UV spectrum, deterring bugs away from these colored objects.

The results of the investigation on what color will repel the greatest number of cockroaches, indicate that red light repels a greater number of roaches than the other five colored lights and the control group of no light. Green light deterred the second most roaches followed by white, yellow, and blue.

Mosquitoes are attracted to dark colours like blue and black. To avoid extra mosquito bites make sure to wear light colours like white and khaki. Not only will they help deter the mosquitoes but they will also help you feel cooler by reflecting sunlight.

Some naturally derived oils, such as peppermint, camphor and citronella, can be mixed with water and used as a spray to help repel mosquitoes. Oils such as eucalyptus and lavender can be lightly applied directly to the skin to prevent mosquitoes from landing to bite.

Wearing scented oils mosquitoes dislike can be one way to keep them away from your skin (and your blood). One of the most famous scents that mosquitoes despise is citronella.

As we’ve mentioned earlier in this article, mosquitoes aren’t fond of strong smells, and this is exactly why Vicks Vapor Rub repels mosquitoes. Not only does it keep mosquitoes away, but it also helps relieve the itchiness that usually comes around as the result of mosquito bites.

Chances are, your front door or back door has a light right beside it. This light will attract mosquitoes and all kinds of other insects, meaning they’ll all be buzzing right around your door, ready to rush inside when you open it.

Light candles or lanterns.

Help keep mosquitoes away from your patio and porch by lighting candles or lanterns that contain one or more essential oils known to repel mosquitoes. These oils include: Citronella. Clove.

First, a mosquito will fly quickly toward the attractant, but it doesn’t find the hole through sight. Mosquitoes don’t sneak through 8 mm gaps even though they physically can, and they prefer the 10 mm voids even more so than the larger holes.

Mosquitoes aren’t known for crawling around on screens but they will bounce on and off. If a hole is large enough, they will absolutely enter through the screen, especially if something on the inside smells good.

The most common places where mosquitoes hide in your room are under and behind the bed or other furniture, inside your drawers, on the ceiling, or on the walls. Or, you can also just stay up and wait. As I said, mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide, heat, and light.

Light and air can easily penetrate mosquito nets, but mosquitoes cannot. Because people can still be bitten through most nets, mosquito nets are hung from frames and not draped directly onto people’s skin. The insecticide used in ITNs is deadly to mosquitoes, but generally harmless to people and pets.

Clothing Can Help Reduce Mosquito Bites

When possible, wear long sleeves, long pants, and socks when outdoors. Mosquitoes may bite through thin clothing, so spraying clothes with repellent will give extra protection.
