British actor and director Tim Roth has an estimated net worth of $7 million. He earns a salary of $275 thousand per episode. Born Timothy Simon Smith on May 14, 1961 in Dulwich, London, he is the son of Ann, a painter and teacher, and Ernie, a Fleet Street journalist, painter and a member of the British Communist Party until the 1970s. His father changed the family name to Roth in the 1940s. He attended the Strand School in Tulse Hill. He studied at London’s Camberwell College of Art because he wanted to be sculptor as a young man.
Roth made his first big break in the British TV movie Made in Britain (1982). His next work was with Mike Leigh in the TV series Meantime (1984). His debut in the big screen came when he substituted Joe Strummer in the Stephen Fears neo-noir The Hit (1984) where he earned an Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Newcomer category. He gained more attention in Vincent & Theo (1990) and in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1990), along with Gary Oldman.
Tim Roth moved to Los Angeles and he has caught the eye of young director Quentin Tarantino. His huge break came in the heist flick Reservoir Dogs (1992). Roth was casted again by Tarantino in the landmark film Pulp Fiction (1994) with Amanda Plummer. He had another collaboration with the director in 1995 with a surprisingly slapstick performance in the anthology film Four Rooms. In the same year, he got an Academy Award nomination in the movie Rob Roy.
Because of his talent in imitating accents, Roth did his own singing (with an American accent) in the lightweight Woody Allen musical Everyone Says I Love You (1996). He starred opposite with Tupac Shakur in Shakur’s last film, the twisted comedy Gridlock’d (1997). He also worked in the Giuseppe Tornatore film The Legend of 1900 (1999) that became something of a fan favorite. Roth made his directorial debut in The War Zone (1999). He made his next high-profile appearance in the Tim Burton remake of The Planet of the Apes (2001). He had a lead role in Francis Ford Coppola’s Young Without Youth (2007) and starred in the special effects-heavy blockbuster The Incredible Hulk (2008). He made his first major American TV role in the Fox-TV series Lie to Me (2009).
Tim Roth has a son named Jack to Lori Baker in 1994. He married Nikki Butler in 1993. They have two sons named Timothy Hunter and Michael Cormac. He is a supporter of the Green Party of England and Wales.
