Tim Berners-Lee net worth and salary: Sir Timothy John “Tim” Berners-Lee is a British engineer and computer scientist who has a net worth of $10 million. Tim Berners-Lee was born on June 8, 1955 in London, England to parents who worked on one of the first commercially-built computers, the Ferranti Mark 1. He studied at The Queen’s College of the University of Oxford from 1973 to 1976, where he received a degree in physics. Berners-Lee is best known for being the MIT professor credited for inventing the World Wide Web in 1989. While working at CERN in 1980 Berners-Lee proposed a project based on the concept of hypertext, to facilitate sharing and updating information among researchers. This would lay the basis for the World Wide Web a decade later. In March 1989 with the help of Robert Cailliau he designed and built the first Web browser. In 1994, Berners-Lee founded the W3C at MIT. It was made up of various companies that were willing to create standards and recommendations to improve the quality of the Internet. Berners-Lee made his idea available freely, with no patent and no royalties due. Berners-Lee is the director of the World Wide Web Consortium and the founder of the World Wide Web Foundation.
