The Osmond family tree can be traced back to Donny Osmond’s grandfather Rulon Osmond. The Osmond siblings were raised by their parents in Ogden, Utah.
The sensational family music group Osmonds were active in the 1970s. The group enjoyed its peak popularity from 1971 to 1975, selling over 77 million copies globally.
The band was initially formed as a barbershop quartet called the Osmond Brothers and consisted of Jay, Merrill, Wayne, and Alan Osmond. At the time, the four Osmond brothers were between the ages of three and nine years old.
A Disneyland executive named Tommy Walker first discovered and hired the group after he saw them perform alongside the Dapper Dans. They were eventually hired by Andy Williams to perform on the famous Andy Williams Show. Soon, their younger brother Donny joined the band, and the quintet was rebranded as The Osmonds. Later, their youngest sibling Jimmy also became a part of the band.
The Osmonds found worldwide success and recognition through their 1971 song One Bad Apple. The track entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart in January 1971 and reached the top position in February; it remained at no. 1 for five weeks.
In the following years, the group released several more successful tracks, including Double Lovin, Yo-Yo, Sweet and Innocent, Puppy Love, Hey Girl, Go Away Little Girl, and Flower Music. The Osmonds released ten studio albums between 1970 and 1979. Their debut album was titled Osmonds, whereas their tenth album was Steppin’ Out.
Besides their success as a musical group, some of the Osmond siblings also found success as solo artists, including Donny, Jimmy, and Marie Osmond.
Osmond Family History
The Osmond family tree starts with Rulon Osmond and Agnes Laverna Van Noy. The couple had a son George who gave rise to nine children.
The family has its roots in Ogden, Utah. The Osmonds father George Virl Sr was born in Wyoming but raised his wife and kids in Utah.
Rulon Osmond and Agnes Laverna Van Noy are the grandparents of the Osmond siblings.
Rulon was born in Afton, Wyoming on August 17, 1893. He married Agnes Laverna of Lincoln County, Wyoming; the couple had a son named George Virl Sr Osmond, born on October 13, 1917.
Rulon passed away the same year his son George was born. George grew up in Wyoming but later moved to Ogden, Utah. He married Olive May Davis of Samaria, Idaho, on December 1, 1944. The couple went on to have nine kids from their marriage.
Their first two kids George Virl Osmond and Tom Osmond were born with a medical condition that caused hearing loss and left them almost deaf. Even the doctors suggested the couple not have any more kids as they could also have similar degenerative conditions. However, George Virl and Olive wanted a large family and proceeded to have children. Fortunately, none of their other seven kids had a hearing problem.
The Osmond siblings’ mother Olive passed away at the age of 79 on May 9, 2004. Likewise, their father George Sr died on November 6, 2007, at the age of 90.

1. George Virl Osmond Jr.
George Jr was married to his ex-wife Christopher Marie Carroll from 1968 to 2013. The divorce was finalized on July 12, 2013.
George Jr has six children from his former marriage: Aaron Virl Osmond, Jared Virl Osmond, Virginia Marie Osmond, David Virl Osmond, Olivia Marie Osmond, and Hyrum Virl Osmond. He also has five grandchildren from his six kids.
2. Thomas Rulon Osmond
Thomas Rulon Osmond, best known as Tom Osmond, has been married twice. He married his first wife Lyn Heslop in 1972 but got divorced after 17 years in 1989.
Tom later got hitched to his second wife Carolyn in 1989. From his first marriage, Osmond had five children: Benjamin Thomas Osmond, Anmaree Osmond, Matthew Thomas Osmond, Geoffrey Thomas Osmond, and Jennifer Lyn. Except for Jennifer, all of his kids survived till adulthood.
Likewise, from his second marriage to Carolyn, Tom has two children named Thomas Christian Osmond and Amelia Marlene Osmond. He is also the stepfather to Carolyn’s kids Anna and Mathew Edward Olsen.
3. Alan Ralph Osmond
Alan has been married to his wife Suzanne Pinegar since July 16, 1974. The pair has eight sons from their marriage of nearly five decades.
Their kids are named Michael Alan Osmond, Nathan George Osmond, Douglas Kenneth Osmond, David Levi Osmond, Scott Merrill Osmond, Jonathan Pinegar Osmond, Alexander Thomas Osmond, and Tyler James Osmond. Alan’s sons collectively perform as the musical group Osmond Brothers Second Generation.
Alan and Suzanne also have 24 grandchildren.
4. Melvin Wayne Osmond
Wayne married his wife Kathlyn White of Bountiful, Utah, on December 13, 1974.
The couple has been blessed with five children: two sons named Steven & Gregory Osmond, and three daughters named Amy Osmond, Sarah Osmon, and Michele Osmond.
Wayne lives a quiet life with his wife in Branson, Missouri, where his three grandchildren regularly visit him.
5. Merrill Davis Osmond
Merrill got married to his wife Mary Carlson in Salt Lake City on September 17, 1973.
The duo had six kids from their marriage: four sons named Justin Osmond, Travis Osmond, Shane Osmond, and Troy Osmond, and two daughters named Heather & Sheila Osmond. However, Troy passed away on November 9, 2018, at the age of 33 due to a heart condition. Similarly, Merrill’s second son Justin was born deaf.

6. Jay Wesley Osmond
Jay married his first wife Kandilyn Harris back in 1987. They were together for over three decades before eventually divorcing in 2011.

Donald Clark Osmond, best known as Donny, married Debra Glenn on May 8, 1978. Their wedding was held at the Salt Lake Temple located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In addition to a marriage extending over 45 years, the couple is also blessed with five sons named Joshua, Christopher, Don, Brandon, and Jeremy. Moreover, the pair has a large family consisting of 13 grandchildren.
8. Olive Marie Osmond
Marie has been thrice, including twice to her first husband. She wedded Stephen Lyle Craig in 1982 but got divorced three years later in 1985.
Secondly, Osmond was married to Brian Blosil from 1986 to 2007. Four years after her second divorce, Marie got back with her first husband Stephen.

Donny Osmond Is Married For 45 Years
Donny Osmond family consists of his wife Debbie Osmond, their five children, and twelve grandchildren. Donny married Debbie over 45 years ago on May 8, 1978.
