Tara Slone (born September 7, 1973) is a Canadian rock singer who has worked with a variety of artists. When Slone was 12 years old, she started classical vocal instruction with the aim of becoming an opera singer. She was born in Montreal, Quebec, and raised in Nova Scotia, where she now resides. She enrolled at Concordia University in order to pursue a degree in music when she was 18 years old. During her time there, though, she changed her career goals to include acting and rock music, and she eventually relocated to Toronto. Slone joined the band Joydrop in 1996 and rose to the position of main vocalist. A Juno Award nomination was given to the band after they published two albums and had chart-topping successes in Canada with the songs “Beautiful” and “Sometimes Wanna Die.” Slone was cast in a recurring role in the television series La Femme Nikita in 1998. She featured in three episodes of the series.
On the television show The Border, she featured in an episode from the second season, titled “Prescriptive Measures,” in which she played an American pop star who tragically dies early in episode, setting in motion what would become the program’s primary narrative. Slone has been collaborating with Jordon Zadorozny on a solo project since the dissolution of Joydrop. On March 6, 2007, she released her latest studio album, Just Look Pretty and Sing, which was a critical and commercial success. “My Little Secret,” “We Were Stars,” and “The Perfect Girl” are among the singles that have been released. Slone was a contestant on the reality television show Rock Star INXS. After performing her rendition of “Message in a Bottle” in week four, she was once again sent to the bottom three. She was subsequently eliminated from the competition the following week. Slone is presently under contract with the Orange Record Label. She co-hosted the entertainment show Inside Jam with Chris Van Vliet on SUN TV in Toronto, which she co-hosted with her husband. She formerly lived in Toronto, where she shared a home with fellow Rock Star INXS candidate Suzie McNeil, who was also on the show. During an episode of MTV Cribs, the two were on hand to give fans a tour of their residence. Slone is the presenter of Breakfast Television on Citytv Calgary, which began airing on August 9, 2010.
