“Once again, we have a legal system that does not give justice,” said Dr. Sylvia Lancaster OBE, whose 20-year-old daughter Sophie was slain by a gang merely because she dressed as a goth.
Lancaster said that Ryan Herbert’s original life sentence matched the “degree of brutality” her daughter endured during a “savage” attack.
In a park in Bacup, Lancashire, Herbert and a group of companions severely assaulted Robert Maltby before assaulting his girlfriend Sophie when she ran to his aid.
During the incident, Sophie was kicked and struck in the head while cradling her boyfriend’s head on her lap. The 20-year-old died 13 days later as a result of her severe injuries.
Herbert was 16 at the time of the attack on August 11, 2007.

Sylvia Lancaster’s partner or Sophie Lancaster’s father is John Lancaster. A week after visiting a Cheadle Hulme studio where a charity Goth Day was staged in her honor, he requested a tattoo of the tragic Sophie.
He said that he wished he could have a permanent picture of his daughter so that he could always remember her. Both John and Sylvie were heartbroken after what happened a decade ago.
However, in 2022, John’s whereabouts are unknown. He is expected to be grieving his wife’s demise now.

Sylvia Lancaster OBE, died abruptly this morning (April 12) at Royal Blackburn Hospital though having been ailing for the previous number of years.
Sophie Lancaster’s mother established a charity in her daughter’s honor, with the name Sophie standing for – fight out prejudice, bigotry, and intolerance worldwide. Junior Lancaster was killed in Stubbylee Park in Bacup in 2007.
She passed away at a Blackburn hospital early this morning. Even though she had been ailing for a few years, her death came as a shock and was completely unexpected. Sylvia had such strong life energy that we can’t picture a world without her.
In the aftermath of Sophie’s heinous murder, Sylvia focused her efforts on promoting people from alternative subcultures and developing educational programs to combat prejudice and intolerance.
