Reid started her career at BBC Radio Bristol and then became a reporter for Radio 5 Live as well as a producer. She joined BBC News 24, where she spent two years as a reporter. When the 23:00 presenter did not arrive one night, Reid became a stand-in presenter for an hour (when three months pregnant with her first child), which turned into a permanent position. Before going on maternity leave, she presented on the BBC’s interactive online service. Reid became a Breakfast News reporter in 1998. Susanna became a presenter on the BBC News Channel after a second maternity break.

One of the main presenters at the BBC Breakfast was Reid, who gave a presentation with Bill Turnbull on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and Saturday with Charlie Stayt. As of 2012, when she replaced lead presenter Sian Williams, she held that role. In 2010, Reid left Breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays to take part in a new Sunday Mor programme.

As of the final episode of the first series on 21 November 2010, she resumed her weekend presenting duties on BBC Breakfast within 2 weeks. When BBC Breakfast moved to MediaCityUK in Salford, Greater Manchester, the existing lead presenter, Sian Williams decided to stay in London on other programs so she could stay close to her children. Reid took the lead presenter role of Williams as the main weekday presenter opposite Bill Turnbull in April 2012.

Reid was a runner – up in Strictly Come Dancing’s eleventh series in December 2013. Kevin Clifton was her professional partner. She previously participated in the show’s Children in Need special, joined Robin Windsor and eventually won it in November 2011

Reid presented the New Year Live program on BBC One on 31 December 2013,  replacing Gabby Logan. Take That lead singer Gary Barlow, who performed a concert at Westminster Central Hall at the same time, joined Reid in presenting duties. It was reported in February 2014 that ITV was attempting to recruit Reid for their new breakfast program with a £ 1 million salary.

Reid had previously rejected claims to move to ITV during her Strictly Come Dancing stint in December 2013, saying that she would “bleed BBC” if cut open. On 3 March 2014, the BBC confirmed Reid’s move to ITV for the Good Morning Britain front breakfast program, which replaced her former Daybreak breakfast show. She co-hosts the show from 6:00 a.m. every Monday to Thursday alongside Ben Shephard and Piers Morgan. At 8:30 a.m.

Piers Morgan interrupts Susanna Reid live on air – before showering her with compliments

Susanna Reid was less than impressed when Good Morning Britain co-host Piers Morgan interrupted her live on air – despite his attempt to win her over afterward with a string of compliments.

As Reid began to introduce Peter Andre as the show’s next guest, Morgan cut across his colleague to read out a tweet from a viewer.

The 48-year-old shrugged her shoulders in disbelief and looked visibly annoyed as her presenting partner disrupted her flow.

“Well we’ve got a tweet here from Robert Foster,” Morgan said, before promising Reid: “You’re going to like this, you’re going to be pleased I’ve interrupted you.”
“I haven’t actually complimented you but you do look resplendent, like a British beauty at its best,” he said.
Apparently unfazed by his unceremonious welcome to the show, Andre then chimed in to voice his approval.
“I’m pleased that you did that, he’s right,” he told Reid.
