The Nevada governor, Steve Sisolak, and his wife, Kathy Ong, were accosted at a restaurant by two men shouting racing taunts and anti-government statements during the weekend.
Governor Steve Sisolak, a Democrat, described the Sunday evening incident as “racist threats” in a statement posted Monday by his re-election campaign. His wife is a Chinese-American former municipal finance specialist born in the Nevada town of Ely.
In recent months, there have been several alleged hate crimes in Las Vegas and Nevada, and an elected politician in rural Nye County claimed in August without evidence that Kathy Sisolak’s family members were profiting from the sale of coronavirus pandemic-related items in China.
State police are investigating the incident, according to Kim Yoko Smith, a spokeswoman for the Nevada Department of Public Safety.
