Originally from the United States, Stephen Randall Glass (born September 15, 1972) is a former journalist who rose to prominence in 1998 when it was discovered that up to half of his published pieces were fabrications. Glass fabricated quotes, sources, and even whole events in pieces he wrote for The New Republic (TNR) and other publications over a three-year period as a rising star at the magazine from 1995 to 1998. The majority of Glass’s pieces were lighthearted and amusing, with some of them being completely based on fictitious events or characters. His time at TNR was depicted in the film Shattered Glass, in which Glass was played by Hayden Christensen, as a character named Glass. “Stephen Aaron Glass” is the protagonist in Glass’s 2003 book The Fabulist, in which he fabricated his own life narrative as the protagonist. Glass has a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and has been employed as a paralegal at the Beverly Hills law office of Carpenter, Zuckerman & Rowley since 2004. She is a member of the American Association of Paralegals. Even though Glass has passed the bar exams in both New York and California, he withdrew his application to become a licenced attorney in New York after being advised that it would not be successful, and the California Supreme Court unanimously ruled in 2014 that he should not be licenced in that state as a result of the ruling.
