Stephen Girard net worth: Stephen Girard was a French-born, naturalized American philanthropist and banker who had a net worth equal to $105 billion modern dollars. Stephen Girard personally saved the United States government from financial collapse during the War of 1812 and became one of the wealthiest people in America. It is estimated that he is the fourth richest American of all time based on the ratio of his fortune to contemporary GDP. Having no children of his own to care for (his only daughter died in infancy), he devoted much of his fortune to philanthropy, particularly the education and welfare of orphans. His legacy is still felt in his adopted home of Philadelphia. Girard as born in Bordeaux, France on May 20, 1750. He lost the sight of his right eye when he was eight and had little education. His father was a sea captain, and Stephen Girard became a licensed sea captain in 1773, eventually landing in the port of Philadelphia in May of 1776 and settling there as a merchant. During that same year, he met Mary Lum, a Philadelphia native and the two soon married. By 1785, Mary had started to succumb to sudden, erratic emotional outbursts and her mental instability and violent rages eventually led to a diagnosis of mental instability that was not curable. Although Girard was devastated with this news, he eventually took a mistress, Sally Bickham in 1787 and in 1790, he ultimately committed his wife to the Pennsylvania Hospital as an incurable lunatic. In 1811, after the charter for the First Bank of the United States expired, Girard purchased most of its stock as well as the building, and opened his own bank called, “Girard Bank.” Girard was a sole proprietor of this bank and thus avoided Pennsylvania state law that prohibited an unincorporated association of persons from establishing a bank. Girard hired George Simpson, the cashier of First Bank, to be the cashier at his new bank and with seven other employees opened for business on May 18, 1812. Girard’s bank was a principal source of government credit during the War of 1812. Towards the end of the war, when the financial credit of the US government was at its lowest, Girard placed nearly all of his own resources at the disposal of the government and underwrote up to 95% of the war loans issued, which enabled the US to carry on to war. After the war, he became a large stockholder in the Second Bank of the United States. The company, Girard Bank, went on to merge with Mellon Bank in 1983 and was largely sold to what is now Citizens Bank two decades later.

After a long and prosperous acting career, Cuba Gooding Jr. has become one of the most recognizable faces in the entertainment industry. He has won countless awards for his various performances. Cuba Gooding Jr. is a versatile actor who can play both comedic and dramatic roles. Early Life: Cuba Mark Gooding, Jr. was born on January 2nd of 1968 in The Bronx, New York. Both of his parents were singers, and his father was a vocalist in the group The Main Ingredient. After his father had achieved considerable success with the hit single “Everybody Plays the Fool,” the family relocated to Los Angeles. After his father left the family, Gooding was raised primarily by his mother. He later became a born again Christian at age 13. As a teen, Gooding attended four different high schools. Career: Cuba Gooding Jr. first found success as a professional breakdancer, and he performed at the closing ceremony of the 1984 Summer Olympics. Although he studied martial arts for three years after high school, he focused on acting in the late 80s. His earliest roles were on TV shows like Hill Street Blues, Amen, and MacGyver. During this period, he also generated buzz with an early film appearance in Eddie Murphy’s Coming to America. His breakthrough film role came in 1991 with Boyz n the Hood. Gooding played the lead, and the film was a critical and commercial success. In addition, Boyz n the Hood was later recognized as a culturally significant film, especially in the context of African Americans living in impoverished neighborhoods. During the rest of the 90s, Gooding built on this success with supporting roles in films such as A Few Good Men, Lightning Jack, and Outbreak. His career took another major step forward when he booked a prominent role in Jerry Maguire. He starred alongside Tom Cruise and won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Cuba Gooding Jr. ended the 90s with another strong performance in As Good As It Gets. The film won two Academy Awards, and Gooding’s supporting role was well-received by critics. Although Gooding had already achieved more than most actors could ever dream of by this point, his career started to nosedive towards the end of the 90s. Gooding continued to appear in solid films such as Instinct and What Dreams May Come, but he also started to appear in poorly received films like Chill Factor. This film and many that followed were box office flops that were destroyed by critics. Every one of Gooding’s successes, such as his role in Men of Honor, seemed to be matched with a colossal failure, such as his involvement in Boat Trip. Some of Gooding’s most notable films during this period include Pearl Harbor, Radio, The Fighting Temptations, and Rat Race. These roles were prominent and brought in large sums at the box office. That being said, most of these films received mixed reviews – in some cases very bad reviews. Pearl Harbor, in particular, was the subject of heated criticism. This goes to show that even Gooding’s most “successful” films during this period can hardly be justified as such. Gooding also started to work on animated films and children’s movies like Home on the Range and Snow Dogs. Although Gooding was perhaps trying to appear more “family-friendly” with these roles, it ultimately hurt his career. Neither film was commercially or critically successful. In particular, Snow Dogs received very poor reviews. Gooding’s run of bad luck with critics continued with Daddy Day Camp and Norbit. Although both films were successful at the box office, the damage to his career was already done. In response to the unrelenting disapproval he was receiving from critics, Cuba Gooding Jr. spent the next portion of his career focusing on independent films. These included Shadowboxer and the TV film Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story. His performance in the latter film was well-received by critics. He also appeared in 2007’s American Gangster and George Lucas’ Red Tails in 2012. He continued this theme of gritty historical dramas with The Butler in 2013 and landed a small part in Machete Kills that year. After making his Broadway debut with The Trip to Bountiful, Gooding appeared in another historical drama called Selma, in which he played famous Civil Rights attorney Fred Gray. He followed on this theme with an appearance in the mini-series The Book of Negroes. By the time Gooding played OJ Simpson in the American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson, his career was back on track. Despite receiving negative reviews from many critics, Gooding had placed himself back in the limelight and was rewarded with a Primetime Emmy. In 2018, Cuba Gooding Jr. directed his first film, entitled Bayou Caviar. Salary Highlights: Cuba earned $600,000 for his Oscar-winning role in Jerry Maguire. He earned $1.5 million for What Dreams May Come and another $1.5 million for Men of Honor. He earned $2 million for Instinct. Controversy: In 2019, Cuba Gooding Jr. was charged with sexual abuse after an incident in Times Square of New York City. Gooding had allegedly groped a woman at a bar. This started a massive chain reaction in which Gooding was booked for multiple sexual abuse charges. Eventually, 22 women came forward to accuse Gooding of inappropriate sexual touching and groping. Three of the accusations have resulted in formal charges against him. He has entered a plea of not guilty with each charge. Personal Life: Cuba Gooding met his ex-wife Sara Kapfer in high school, and they were married in 1994. Over the course of their relationship, they had three children together before Kapfer filed for legal separation in 2014. Three years later, their divorce was finalized. Real Estate: Over the years Cuba has owned a number of properties in Los Angels. In 2009 he sold a home in Studio City, Ca for $1.4 million. In 2013 he sold a home in Porter Ranch, Ca for $735,000. Also in 2013 he listed a large mansion in the Pacific Palisades for $11.995 million. Cuba and Sara bought the home in May 2000 for $3.5 million. Today, she is best known as the actress who played the character of Wonder Woman in various movies set in the DC universe. In 2018, it was reported that she was one of the highest-paid actresses in the world – the same year she made Time magazine’s list of 100 most influential people. She was again one of the five highest-paid actresses in the world in 2020, thanks largely to a $20 million payday for the Netflix film “Red Notice”, which led to total earnings during the period of $32 million. Early Life: Gal Gadot was born on the 30th of April, 1985, in Petah Tikva, Israel. She was born to an engineer and a teacher, and her parents gave her a Hebrew name that roughly translates to “waves on the riverbank.” Gadot comes from a long line of Jews living in Israel, and her grandparents suffered in Europe under the Nazi occupation before moving to Israel. Gal Gadot grew up alongside a younger sister before attending the IDC Herzliya College to study law and international relations. Military Service: As an Israeli citizen, Gal Gadot was required to complete a two-year tour of duty in the Israel Defense Forces. She enlisted as a combat instructor, and her experience in the military later became an asset as she took various acting roles. In 2007, she posed for Maxim magazine in their “Women of the IDF” photoshoot. Modeling Career: Gal Gadot showed promise as a model early in her career, and she won the Miss Israel Pageant as an 18-year-old. Having won this competition, she moved on to the Miss Universe pageant in 2004, which took place in Ecuador. This set the stage for a successful and lucrative modeling career during the years to come. Gal Gadot was worked with numerous brands, often becoming the face of their marketing campaigns. Some of her most notable modeling work involved brands such as Miss Sixty, Huawei, Captain Morgan, Gucci, and Jaguar. Gadot has also featured in many high-profile magazines, such as Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Bride Magazine, and FHM. She was also the main model for the fashion brand Castro, and she replaced Jennifer Aniston as the pitchwoman for Smartwater in 2020. Acting Career: After completing her university education, Gal Gadot pivoted to focus on acting. Early auditions included roles as the “Bond Girl” for Quantum of Solace. Although she didn’t win that role, she was introduced to many audiences with her appearance in the fourth Fast & Furious film. She reportedly won the role in part because of her experience in the military, and she performed her own stunts in her scenes. After a number of smaller roles in films like Date Night and Knight and Day, she reprised her former role in the 5th and 6th Fast & Furious films. The real breakthrough in her acting career came in 2016, when she played the role of Wonder Woman for the first time in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Reportedly, Gal Gadot was trained extensively in the art of Jiu-Jitsu, kickboxing, and other forms of martial arts in preparation for the role. On the heels of the film’s release, many critics claimed that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman “stole the show” from Batman and Superman. After a slew of other small roles over the next year, Gal Gadot became a leading lady for the first time with the release of Wonder Woman in 2017. The film focused solely on the character of Wonder Woman, and grossed almost $822 million on a budget of about $150 million. It also became the highest-grossing film by a solo female director. She followed that up with another appearance as Wonder Woman in Justice League, which also released in 2017. In 2017, it was announced that there would be a sequel to Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot playing the lead once again. Gal Gadot has also earned credits as a voice actor. She appeared as an animated version of herself in an episode of The Simpsons, and she also voiced the character of Shank in 2018’s Ralph Breaks the Internet. Salary Highlights and Endorsement Earnings: Gal Gadot’s salary for the first Wonder Woman movie was just $300,000. This caused quite a controversy when it was revealed, as she had made significantly less than male actors who also played superheroes. That being said, a lower pay rate is typical for the first film in a franchise, and Gadot’s salary was increased in subsequent films where she played Wonder Woman. Having established herself as an A-list actress, her pay rate was increased to an impressive $10 million in her second appearance as Wonder Woman. In 2013, it was reported that Gadot’s annual salary for acting and modeling work was 2.4 million Shekels. Between June 2017 and June 2018, Gal earned $10 million between her movie salaries and endorsement deals with companies like Revlon. In 2020 Gal earned a whopping $20 million paycheck for appearing in the Netflix movie “Red Notice”. Personal Life: In 2008, Gal Gadot married real estate developer Yaron Varsano. The couple has worked together to create various entrepreneurial projects, such as a hotel in Tel-Aviv that they eventually sold to Roman Abramovich for a cool $26 million. Varsano and Gadot also started a production company together called Pilot Wave. In the coming years, Gadot plans to co-produce various films that she will be acting in. United Nations Involvement: In 2016, Wonder Woman (and Gal Gadot by proxy) appeared at the United Nations to mark the 75th anniversary of Wonder Woman’s first appearance at the UN. Gadot (as Wonder Woman) was given the title “Honorary Ambassador for the Empowerment of Women and Girls.” After members of the UN council protested against the decision, Wonder Woman was stripped of her title. Among concerns raised were opinions that the character of Wonder Woman actually objectifies women instead of empowering them.
