Shoma Chaudhury Kiran Choudhary

Shoma Chaudhury in recent years has been a fixture on the TV news show circuit. Confident, articulate, and unflappable, she is a news anchor’s perfect guest. But it was a very different Chaudhury who appeared today on CNN-IBN. Defensive, angry, even insulting, as she snarled at Rajdeep Sardesai, “Maybe I should talk in Spanish, and then you will understand me better.”

She sounded more an aggrieved victim than the leading editor of a major national publication. As her responses to Sardesai reveal, Chaudhuri has made the entire situation about her desire, her intent, her thinking. This is perhaps why she has taken the media inquisition personally, as well. And why she was “more and more confused” by Sardesai’s questions.

Shoma Chaudhury Tarun Tejpal

She handled a complaint of sexual assault by a young woman journalist against the news magazine’s editor-in-chief, Tarun Tejpal. Ms. Chaudhury refuted allegations of insufficient action on her part.

She said Mr. Tejpal “had a completely different version of the incident but because I was driven by my allegiance to women’s rights, I completely overrode his version and asked for an unconditional apology because I felt that regardless of  the different version he had transgressed as the leader of the institution.”

She told NDTV that the “internal matter” had been resolved.  Justifying that assessment, her statement said today, “In a phone conversation, the aggrieved journalist told me that the gesture showed that he was genuinely sorry and she did not feel the need for any ‘vengeance’ and she had wanted justice and now needed time to heal.”

After she received an email on Monday from the journalist describing the alleged sexual assault at a Tehelka event in Goa earlier this month, Ms. Chaudhury received another email from Mr. Tejpal saying that he is stepping down from office for six months as “atonement.”  He also sent an apology to the journalist via email.  The Goa police and the National Commission for Women have asked for copies of all the emails as part of their investigation against Mr. Tejpal.

Shoma Chaudhury Congress

The Congress Information Technology (IT) Cell is now caught with a sexual abuse scandal. The Delhi Police on Tuesday registered a case against loudmouth IT Cell head and former actress Divya Spandana’s close aide Chirag Patnaik for sexually abusing a 28-year old lady staffer.

The complaint filed by the young lady who was openly abused by Chirag Patnaik at the Congress party’s IT Cell office drew parallels with Tehelka Magazine’s Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury. Divya Spandana tried to hush-up the complaint of the victim girl and attempted to save the accused. So as per the laws regarding sexual abuses, Divya Spandana is equally culpable.

Congress IT Cell works at 15, Gurudwara Rakabganj Road, which is a big home allotted to the powerful Members of Parliament (MP) from the 2009 Congress party’s “War Room”. Rahul Gandhi, Ahmed Patel, and Jairam Ramesh are regular visitors to this place and it is considered a lucky area after the party retained power in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress party went out of the way to retain this area after it lost many sitting MPs in 2014 and currently this palatial residence is allotted in the name of nominated MP and actress Rekha. As her tenure ended recently, the party is looking for some MPs to retain this accommodation.  So it is a good guess that an attempt to rape or sexual abuse happened many a time at this high profile area.

Career: Frangipane began posting videos on YouTube and other websites in 2012 and gained attention for her parody of Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble.” In 2014, she met a “music guy” at a party, and he asked her to collaborate with him; they recorded the song “Ghost” and posted it on SoundCloud, and several record labels began pursuing Halsey. In 2016, she was diagnosed with endometriosis, and believes that a miscarriage she suffered the previous year may have caused the condition.
