He was named Sebastian Paweł Janikowski when he was born on March 2, 1978 in Wałbrzych, south-western Poland. “Seebas”, as he is popularly known by his fans, was born into a sports family. His father Henryk Janikowski played football in his prime, but after moving to the United States of America he gave up football as his career wasn’t making much progress. Sebastian’s mother is Halina Janikowski. His father’s move brought chaos to the gang his family shared. His parents eventually divorced and his father Henryk remarried to an American woman.
While Henry was away, Sebastian Janikowski became curious about all things football, began playing the game, much of which he had taught himself, and within a short period of time he was perfecting his skills. At the age of 15 he got a place for the Polish football team and switched to the U17 national team.
