After the death of Gene Siskel, Roger co-hosted with over 30 guest critics. After ten appearances on the program, Roeper was chosen as a permanent co-host for the show Siskel & Ebert alongside Ebert. In 2002, the show’s title was shortened to Ebert & Roeper.
However, Roger Ebert suffered from cancer surgery and Richard hosted the show with several guest critics. Several guests included Clerks director Kevin Smith, The Tonight Show host Jay Leno, and singer-songwriter John Mellencamp.
Later on, on July 20, 2008, Richard announced that he was leaving the show in mid-August and return with a new show. However, his plan failed and in December 2010, Roeper joined Reelz Channel. At the time, Roeper contributed to the segment, Richard Roeper’s Reviews every weekday at 5:00 PM ET.
In January 2013, Roeper began contributing film reviews to RogerEbert.com. In August 2014, Roeper became a first-staring film critic for The Chicago Sun-Times. Roeper’s debut film review was Guardians of the Galaxy.
