Ric Romero retires after 25 years at ABC7

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Ric Romero told countless stories during his 25 years at Eyewitness News.

He started as a general assignment reporter and then became our Orange County bureau chief, then weekend anchor. He was our travel reporter and ultimately our consumer affairs reporter.

Ric was there for some of the biggest stories of the last quarter-century, including the Northridge Earthquake, the L.A. Riot and the infamous O.J. Simpson slow-speed chase.

“We hear he’s on the 5 Freeway. We rush over there. We get in right behind the slow-speed chase, and I can see O.J. Simpson actually in silhouette holding a gun up to his head,” Ric recalled.

He was one of the first TV reporters to report live from the Consumer Electronics Show, where he previewed the latest gadgets.

Ric has an ability that all good reporters have: He can tell any story, no matter how complicated, and present it in a way an average person can understand.

It’s an ability influenced, perhaps, by what he studied in college: business and theater arts.

He’s been a cameraman, produced commercials, a children’s show, sold insurance, he’s been an actor, a professional dancer, and was one of the first male flight attendants for Pan Am.

But the job he did longest and loved most of all was to report the news for ABC7.

Ric Romero Internet Notoriety

Romero became a FARK cliché in October 2005 after his article effusing about the phenomenon of blogging was posted to KABC’s site, several years after blogs became widely popular.

Romero’s name is usually attached to an article where he (or another author) reports on a fad or cultural phenomenon that has long since passed the point of being newsworthy or is very obvious.

On December 7, 2009, Drew Curtis discovered Romero’s Facebook fan page, which led Ric to ask the Farkers that joined his new Facebook page to donate to the Spark of Love Toy Drive, which subsequently resulted in 582 online donations totaling $13,659.20 (as of December 16, 2009).

Romero thanked the Fark community on the news for their donations, and recognized his status as a Farkism, also reporting the “breaking news” that “Water is Wet.”.

Ric Romero Wife, Married

Ric Romero is a reporter for the LA news station KABC, and the secret alter-ego of superhero Captain Obvious. He became known to fark when, in 2005, he reported on the new trend of blogging.

Since then he has gone on to report the painfully obvious, such as the fact that hospital fees vary for the same procedure, and possibly that water is wet, tune in at 11 to find out.

The sheer honesty and obviousness of the subjects he covers make it easy to lampoon him, which makes Romero reports a popular greenlight on fark.

Romero is aware of his reputation on Fark.com and has done a shout-out to the community when he reported on his own obviousness.

While in LA, he divorced from his last wife, losing a huge settlement equal to $286 million, over a homosexual affair with NBC Tonight Show Correspondent, Ross the Intern. But his pieces of information about marriages, wife, wedding are not yet revealed but stay ready for the update soon

Ric Romero His short career

Ric Romero is a news reporter for ABC7 TV in Los Angeles, California. Ric is ABC7’s Consumer Proctologist. He shows viewers how to lose most for their money, quickly, getting scammed and ripped-off, and makes them aware of the latest v1agra websites and hi-tech penis enlargers.

He is adored and loved by users of Fark because his stories are so honest, obvious, and outdated by at least five years, much like the majority of humor content on Fark. Read also about Sean McLaughlin (meteorologist)

Ric is, unfortunately, a native Californian and was born in East LA and eventually grew up in the San Fernando Valley.

Before coming to ABC7, Ric started at KNTV in San Jose as an ass-kissing studio jockey. Within a few months, he kissed enough ass and was in charge of all of the production affairs at the station.

His duties included producing and directing live ‘breaking news’ events, creating new media flops, and making over 500 useless commercials. Somehow, some schmuck nominated him for several awards, so he ended up getting a Clio, an Emmy, and a national Wet Beaver Broadcast Journalism award.

The next time Ric broke a camera was as the host of PM Magazine at KUTV in Salt Lake City. That job wanted to make him convert to Mormonism and take 284 wives. He married everything from entertainment to adventure stories to grizzly bears in Alaska to ice climbers in Wyoming, hot air balloonists over the Rockies, and yachters in Greece.

Next, Ric went to Phoenix at KPNX-TV and worked as the Computer Intestinal Reporter. He got some more Emmys there, one of his series of investigative reports was instrumental in changing the state gambling laws. He was ineffective at changing the state’s polygamy law, so he had to get divorced 283 times.

Ric ended up back in LA. Since acting like a reporter for ABC7 Eyewitness News, Ric has been the Orange Gatorade Bumbling Chef, Weekend Sports, and Sunday Morning BS Anchor.

He has covered such major stories as blogging, Anna Nicole Smith’s death, Tom Cruise’s various romances, and affairs, the Academy Awards, as well as numerous other non-notable-but-notable-to-news-media stories.

He was the only reporter who was part of the infamous O.J. Simpson slow-speed chase reporting live from the news van while following the white Bronco but reported this two years after it happened. He has also become a Fark cliche.

While in LA, he divorced from his last wife, losing a huge settlement equal to $286 million, over a homosexual affair with NBC Tonight Show Correspondent, Ross the Intern.
