Rhea Seehorn Better Call Saul
“Better Call Saul” — which will air its sixth and final season in 2021 — follows the advancement of benevolent lawyer Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) into obscure criminal legal counselor Saul Goodman of “Breaking Bad.” That improvement implies that Seehorn, who plays McGill’s principled yet progressively tangled sweetheart Kim Wexler, is growing closer to learning the destiny of her character, who was not in “Breaking Bad.”
Given that McGill/Goodman is coming ever closer to interfacing with criminal mastermind Walter White and the deadly black market at the core of “Breaking Bad,” hypothesis has been consistently ascending among the show’s enthusiasts that Kim might just meet an awful end. Moreover, Kim was positioned as the moral center in a world populated by corrupt legal advisors, street pharmacists, and horrendous evildoers.
While she has shown her assurance to be an upstanding legal counselor, her upstanding to McGill, with his faulty morals and ability for tricks, has now and again put her irreproachable notoriety in peril. (She’s even been his periodic assistant.) This season, Kim’s qualities are on a crash course with Goodman’s darkening nature. Kim was left shell-shocked at the conclusion of last season: She and McGill had cooked up an elaborate plot to get his lawyer’s license reinstated.
She was moved during a reinstatement hearing as McGill spoke of being traumatized by the suicide of his older brother, Chuck (Michael McKean). But she was sent reeling at the end when she found out that his emotions weren’t real, and were instead part of a scheme on his part. In addition to this, she was astonished after he revealed to her that he intended to specialize in legal matters under the name Saul Goodman.
And while the protagonist remains Goodman, Seehorn said her character will come much more into focus this season. Kim’s past, and how that has shaped her, has been one of the intriguing mysteries propping up “Saul’s” central drama. Although she seems to be professionally competent and generally in control, her considerable vulnerabilities will be uncovered.
