In 2014, a Reddit user posted a mugshot of a woman named Linda Murphy crying with the title, “This woman got arrested for calling her ex-boyfriend 77000 times in a week,” with a link to an article leading to the World News Daily Report.
On the website, the article stated that Linda Murphy was a Mexican woman who the Albuquerque Police Department arrested for an extreme case of stalking.
It further claimed that the girlfriend was 28 years old and was obsessed with her ex-lover leading her to call him 77639 times in a week with 1937 emails, 41229 texts, and 647 letters within the same week.
Murphy, diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive behavior, did not take her to breaking up with her boyfriend well and used three phones to call him 24 hours a day with the help of energy drinks to stay awake.
The news later read that she finally got arrested, which gave a breath of relief to the victim.
Linda Murphy’s Boyfriend Revealed
The boyfriend that Linda Murphy was stalking was William Ryans, who had recently broken up with her resulting in a severe case of stalking.
William’s attorney, J. D. James Kilroy, stated that his client suffered from a lack of sleep and depression due to his ex-girlfriend’s actions.
He also claimed that Ryans were finally relieved with Linda Murphy behind bars and wanted medical help and the law to keep his ex-girlfriend away from him in the future.
Where Is Linda Murphy Today?
Linda Murphy, the woman who called her boyfriend 77000 times a week, becoming an internet sensation, does not exist. The whole story of Linda turned out to be a hoax and a complete joke by the website, as it seems they post troll articles.
The woman whose mugshot the article used is a woman named Ciera Steed from Oklahoma. The article used her mugshot from 2010 in their writing with a fake storyline.
Ciera did get arrested in 2010, not for stalking but for crawling through a McDonald’s drive-up window after being drunk.
She got a lot of negative attention on social media after the story with her mugshot went viral, which she addressed on her Facebook.
Ciera left a message to others in her comments, writing,” Take note folks: don’t do drugs and climb through the drive-thru windows or this may happen to you.” and asked people to stop messaging her about the meme since it is fake.
Currently, the real woman behind the fake Linda Murphy works at Pro Shopper and as a chemist at Drugstore Cowboy in Oklahoma with her child.
