Randy Stoklos (born December 13, 1960) is the first player in beach volleyball history to earn a million dollars. Together with Sinjin Smith, he won one United States title and five World championships. He has won the Manhattan Beach Open four times in his career. Stoklos has 123 career victories (which places him third all-time in the sport’s history), has earned over two million dollars in prize money, and has been recognised with many MVP and Best Setter honours.
Stoklos was a member of the UCLA volleyball team. On his father’s refusal to allow him to participate in beach volleyball in 1992, he sent a letter to the editor. If his kid spent too much time at the beach, his father, a Pole who had escaped a Nazi concentration camp and was described as a “harsh old-country type” by the Los Angeles Times, was concerned that his son might grow up to be lethargic. On October 23, 2008, he was officially inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame.
