Ponoka Stampede Accident: Female Volunteer Was Killed By Horses In Central Alberta Rodeo

A 30-year-old female volunteer was thrown off and trampled to death by horses at Central Alberta Rodeo in Ponoka Stampede on 26 June 2022.

Around 1920, the Ponoka Sports Association was established, and their inaugural activity was a Stampede to generate money for the Community Restroom.

The Ponoka Stampede was established in 1936 when a 2-day Stampede, Carnival, and Sports Event was held in celebration of the holiday of July 1. It is the largest Canadian Professional Cowboy Association-approved rodeo.

The top cowboys and cowgirls in North America travel to the Ponoka Stampede to fight for over $500,000 in cash prizes while riding the best rodeo livestock.

During the opening-day practice, the 30-year-old wrangler was throwing horses onto the infield when she got flung from her mount, according to Cline. In the arena at the time, there were between 25 and 30 horses without riders.

President Jason Cline stated on Monday, “In our opening practice last night we did have an incident with one of the wranglers.”

Who Was The Female Volunteer Killed By Horses?

The female volunteer who sadly lost her life after being thrown off her horse and trampled by horses to death is still unknown. Police officials have not disclosed any information about her identity.

The incident took place during practice for the opening ceremony, according to Jason Cline, president of the Stampede. He called it a horrible accident that happened just as the stampede was starting up again after a two-year break.

Cline claimed that they are cooperating with the investigation and had plans to pay the victim some kind of tribute later this week. He claimed that the woman was a skilled rider who had been volunteering for the stampede for the previous five years.

Female Volunteer Family And Twitter Tributes

Police officials have not disclosed any information about the deceased female volunteer and her family. Twitter has been flooded with death tributes to the female wrangler who tragically lost her life.

Around 7:10 p.m., the woman was pushed from her horse, according to police, and was trampled by several horses. OHS is looking into it right now. The “wild horse” portion of the grandstand ceremonies has been given a verbal halt work order.
