Patti LuPone children Joshua Luke Johnston is an actor like his mother. Patti shares her son with her husband Matthew Johnston.
Patti is an acclaimed actress and singer best known for her work on stage, especially in musical theatre. She graduated from the esteemed performing arts conservatory Julliard School, where she got a Bachelor of Fine Art.
The actress started her career with the equally acclaimed professional theatre company, The Acting Company, in 1972. Less than three years into her career, she received a Tony nomination.
She would win three Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards, and two Olivier Awards and was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 2006.
Most recently, she has gained new fans for her work in television and animation. Especially for her role as the voice of Yellow Diamond in the animated series “Steven Universe.”
Patti LuPone Son Follows In Her Footstep
Patti Lupone children Joshua Luke Johnston has followed acting genes from his mother. Patti gave birth to her son Joshua on November 21, 1990.
According to an interview with his mother, Joshua started acting professionally at a 2002 summer show of A Little Night Music at the Ravinia Festival as an eleven-year-old. His mother had taken him along to accompany her, and he ended up saying a few lines in front of 3,000 people and ended up loving it.
The young actor has credited this event, alongside his mother’s support as the impetus leading him to pursue a career in acting. Like his mother, he primarily acts on stage, and as of the writing of this article, has not had credit in film or television.
Joshua has emulated his acclaimed mother for much of his career and joined The Acting Company, his mother’s old troupe, in 2013. His acting credits with the company include productions of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are De*d and Hamlet.
He also toured nationally with the group and undertook a four-month national tour. After leaving The Acting Company, Joshua settled in New York to build a career there.
Outside of acting, Patti’s son has also tried his hands at directing and editing. He has a YouTube channel called JJ8771121, which has amassed over 3.68K subscribers.
The videos on his channel broadly show theatrical and musical performances. However, the crowning achievement of his channel is the nine-episode web series he directed and edited about his mother called “Entrances, Exits, & Everything in Between.”
Patti Is Happily Married To Matthew
Patti LuPone husband Matthew Johnston is a camera operator. Patti and Matthew got married on December 12, 1988.
Their wedding ceremony took place on the stage of the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at the Lincoln Center. The wedding occurred after filming the television movie “LBJ.”
Though not an actor, Matthew is also a part of the entertainment business but in the background. He works in the Camera and Electrical Department.
He started his career in 1984 as an assistant cameraman in the movie “City Lights,” which came out the same year. He then worked as the second assistant cameraman in the 1986 movie “Bad Guys.”
The cameraman started to credit himself as Matt Johnston for his following three movie projects in 1986 and 1987, consisting of one movie and two television movies, where he worked as both the first and second assistant cameraman.
He would return to being credited by his full name for his next two movies, “Cherry 2000” in 1987 and “Tremors” in 1990. Matthew worked as a second assistant cameraman in both films.
The last movie he has been credited with on his IMDb page is also the most successful movie he has been attached to. The movie was 1992’s “Wayne’s World,” where he worked as a second assistant photographer and credited himself, once again, as Matt Johnston.
The cameraman has yet to be involved in anything professionally since then. He does not have any social media, so the only thing known about him is that he and Patti are still happily married.
The Actress Comes From An Acclaimed Family
Patti LuPone family consists of many other great artists and singers. Her brother Robert LuPone and great-great aunt Adelina Pattia are also legends.
Patti was born on April 21, 1969, to Angela Louise, a Librarian, and Orlando Joseph LuPone, a school administrator. Her two brothers are Robert and his twin William.
Adelina, who lived from 1843 to 1919, was a Spanish Italian opera singer who was one of her day’s most popular and highest-earning opera singers.
From the age of 16 until her passing, her soprano voice earned her much acclaim, and she performed for many luminaries like the Prince of Wales and even President Abraham Lincoln.
Robert, Patti’s brother, was born three years before her. He was also a successful actor on stage, film, and on television. Like Patti, he also studied at Julliard school and was nominated for a Tony Award.
However, unlike his sister, Robert also worked as an art director and worked at The New School as their MFA Drama Program Director until 1911. More recent audiences may know him for his guest appearances in various mid-2000s television shows.
Lastly, she has a brother named William. Back when they were children, William, Patti, and Robert would star in family acts as the LuPone Trio. Sadly William quit acting and later became a librarian.
