Patrick Reed is one of the best golfers the sport has seen lately. After admitting that Tiger Woods, another golfing legend, was his mentor, he definitely learned from the best. This is evident in his winning streak from high school to his impressive performance as a college golfer and former world champion. His life seems perfect, but there are still some aspects that are quite unexpected. Read on to find out more.
Patrick Reed’s short biography
Patrick Nathaniel Reed is an American professional golfer. He was born on August 5, 1990 in San Antonio, Texas. His family is steeped in golf, and his inspiration for the game was cemented when Patrick’s first gifts included a set of plastic golf clubs.
For his studies, he graduated from universityhigh school located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In high school he was very involved in the classic game of golf. To fuel that passion, he used his skills to earn the Rolex AJGA All-America award three times in a row (2005, 2006, 2007). He won the Junior British Open in 2006 and qualified well for the US Amateur Championship in 2007. Patrick also led his high school to the state championship two years in a row (2006 and 2007) and also won the 2007 State Medalist Honors.
In 2008, after graduating from high school, he gained admission to the University of Georgia and launched a collegiate career in golf. During his studies, he encountered a major problem. He was faced with locker room theft, cheating on the seat and double arrested for poisoning. As a result of these unfortunate scandals, he decided to drop out of the University of Georgia and enroll as a major at Augusta State University. While studying at his new university, he helped lead the institution to a 2010 and 2011 NCAA Division I title. Patrick also qualified for the 2008 US Amateur Semifinals but lost 2-3 to one of the top amateurs in the world, Danny Lee.
He later won the Jones CUP Invitational in 2010. In 2014, he made history as the youngest golfer to ever win a WGC event. Below average, he holds the record for most punches, a record also set at the 2014 Humana Challenge. He currently plays on the European Tour and the PGA Tour, making history as the youngest player to win a WGC event.
Wealth (income and earnings)
Patrick Reed is confident that he will rise quickly and successfully, and he is definitely in it to win it. Considering his earnings from the sport, he also makes a large fortune from endorsements which collectively gives him an estimated net worth of $9 million.
Family: parents, sister and wife
It’s not every day you hear that a son is at odds with his family, especially his parents. Unfortunately, this is the case for Patrick as he has been estranged from his father Bill Reed and mother Jeannette Reed for over six years. His father was a healthcare worker and a proficient golfer.
While the root cause of this feud hasn’t been thoroughly confirmed, rumor has it that the damaged relationship between the superstar golfer and his parents stems from the physical and verbal abuse his parents subjected him to when he was younger. Patrick hasn’t come to confirm or deny this, however, leaving enthusiasts and fans alike to speculate about the visibly awkward situation.
His total disapproval of his family was publicly witnessed firsthand when his parents were spotted off the golf course during the 2014 US Open. This move was actually requested by Patrick and his wife Justine.
His only sister’s name is Hannah. According to her, she and her big brother Patrick were very close growing up. However, she says she doesn’t recognize the person her big brother has transformed into since he became a world famous golfer. According to her, she was accused of faking two kidney surgeries to get Patrick back in her life. Of course, this was denied by her.
In a Facebook post, Hannah wrote of the devastating effect of seeing her parents hurt and everything they suffer comes from the media reporting on her family’s relationship with her brother, which she claimed were all fake.
Patrick Reed is married to his heartthrob, Justine Karain. The couple married on December 21, 2012; and have been together before. Interestingly, Justine was his caddie at every tournament he entered and that lasted for a good two years. She had to take a break when she became pregnant with her first child.
