Pat DiNizio (born October 12, 1955) of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, is the lead singer, songwriter, and member of the Smithereens, a band he founded in 1980 with Jim Babjak, Dennis Diken, and Mike Mesaros of Carteret, New Jersey. Mr. Smithereen Goes to Washington, a 2001 documentary film, documented the campaign. That same year, he embarked on the “Living Room Tour,” a five-month tour in which he played alone, by request only, at the homes of admirers.
DiNizio was also an inaugural member of the Independent Music Awards’ judging panel to support independent artists, and he still occasionally books similar concerts for a nominal fee. In 2001, he was one of the first musicians to throw his support behind XM Satellite Radio, becoming host and programme director for the XM Radio Unsigned station. The programme featured DiNizio’s rehabilitation from a “life-threatening and crippling nerve illness” by training and trying to try out for a Minor League Baseball club (The Somerset Patriots), as well as baseball legends from other artists like Joan Jett, Gene Simmons, and others.
