Oscar Bonginkosi Mdlongwa professionally known as Oskido is a DJ, recording artist, record producer, and businessman in South Africa. He is one of the pioneering artists to popularise the Kwaito genre of music outside the townships of South Africa thus making him be regarded as a premier in the South African music industry. Besides he is the co-founder of Kalawa Jazmee Records (formerly Kalawa Records), a record label that houses musical acts like Mafikizolo and Uhuru.

Oskido Career
He came to the limelight after he volunteered to perform at a night club after a scheduled DJ failed to show up. He formulated his own kind of sound into cassettes, he went on to release compilations like Mixmaster and Big Jam thus making him popular outside Johannesburg before he was introduced to Bruce “Dope” Sebitlo, a South African musical act who went on partner Oskido to form the Brothers of Peace band.
Between 1994 and 2004 under the Brothers of Peace band, he released and produced eight albums before he went on to partner with Don Laka and Christos Katsaitis to found Kalawa Records.
Oskido rejection of Zimbabwean heritage
He was nominated for the Outstanding Arts Personality award from Outside of Bulawayo alongside Jah Prayzah and Winky D at the Roil Bulawayo Arts Award. He turned down the nomination citing that he did not qualify as he is not from Zimbabwe.
This is despite his Zimbabwean heritage having been born to a Zimbabwean father and growing up in Luveve, Bulawayo. Yet his surname Mdlongwa can only be traced to Matabeleland, Zimbabwe.
Oskido Family
He is born to a Zimbabwean father, Esaph Mdlongwa, who was a politician and a South African mother, Emily Sophia Molefi. Her mother died a long time ago but he mentioned that I see my mother in my children sometimes.
Oskido Children
He has not revealed any information about the mother of his children but all we know is that he has two nannies who help him take care of his kids. It’s not easy being a single father, he says, and he hasn’t been the perfect dad either.
“Being a single dad is difficult because of my busy schedule. My children look up to me and I’ve made a lot of mistakes with them watching but as they grow I’ve learned to speak to them about everything.”
