How It All Began: Origin and History
What are known today as the Oscarsnicknamed the Oscars all began in the home of Louis B. Mayer, who was the shop foreman of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). He invited some of them to dinner at his house, and during the outing they had a friendly discussion about the need for a worldwide organization for the film industry. Soon after, big shots in the various branches of the industry were invited to announce the founding of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in 1927. Thereafter, a merit awards committee been put in place. Oscars.
Of all the names, the Oscars tend to stand out as the most worthy merit awards. On how the nickname came about, one version of the story has it that an Academy librarian and future executive director, Margaret Herrick, after seeing the trophy for the first time, exclaimed that she looked like her uncle Oscar. Another said that Bette Davis named her after her ex-husband, Harmon Oscar Nelson, Jr. However, it wasn’t until 1939 that the Academy adopted the nickname. Whichever version of the story is out there, we know Hollywood’s most coveted award as the ‘Oscars’ and we’re not dropping the name anytime soon, it is, if ever we do. will do.
At the same time, AMPAS also became the premier film institution. The awards include a collection of honors recognizing artistic and technical excellence in the motion picture industry in the previous year. He also oversees all processes leading up to the ceremony, from nomination to voting, to more than 8,000 members drawn from the film industry around the world.
Through the Oscars, AMAPS aims to garner high approval and honor for superb achievements in filmmaking and ultimately to foster excellence in all aspects of filmmaking. In addition, the group hopes not only to recognize and uphold virtue in all aspects of film business, but also to perpetuate it.
The first annual awards show was held on May 16, 1929 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and has since become an annual event. It was a private dinner, hosted by Douglas Fairbanks, with only 270 people present and 15 statuettes presented. The ceremony lasted just fifteen minutes and was followed by a post-awards party at the Mayfair Hotel.
The figurine
Each year, during the awards ceremony, the institution awards gold-plated statuettes officially called Oscars of Merit of the Oscars, in a sparkling, star-studded ceremony.
The Oscar was originally sculpted from a sketch by Cedric Gibbons of George Stanley. Made of solid bronze, it is coated with 24 carat gold. The stylized figure is a 13½ inch tall knight who weighs 8½ pounds. He holds a crusader’s sword and stands on a film reel with five spokes, each representing the original branches of the Academy (actors, directors, producers, technicians and screenwriters).
A total of 15 statuettes were presented in 1929 and since then 3,072 Oscars have been presented at the 90th ceremony.
The voting process
Each category has special voting rules, meanwhile the Best Picture nomination is open to all voting members. Nevertheless, regular rewards for most categories are usually offered by branch AMPAS members belonging to the following categories: . Some categories, such as Foreign Language Films, Documentaries, and Animated Feature Films, have special voting rules that will be discussed later.

The final vote, which is also done through the sameThe process (paper ballots or online voting) follows.
