Bio of Olivier Giroud

Giroud was born on September 30, 1986 in Chambéry, France. He was brought up alongside his older brother, Romain Giroud, who convinced him not only to love football but also to play it.

Growing up, Romain also played football but before going too far, he decided to quit smoking and pursue other things. This almost prompted young Olivier to quit the game, but he later decided to stay with the encouragement of his brother and other family members.

Nicknamed Chaussettes as a child, Olivier Giroud, of Italian origin, was raised in Forges, where he started playing football.

Soccer career

Giroud started as a footballer when he was only six years old with Froges. That was in 1992 and he continued to play for the team until he arrived at Grenoble in 1999, remaining with the club until 2005 when he was promoted to the club’s senior team.

In 2008, he was loaned from Grenoble to Istres before signing a contract which would see him play at Tours from 2008 to 2010 when he moved to Montpellier. Olivier later left for England where he played for Arsenal FC in the English Premier League.

In 2018, Giroud would play 180 games for the club, scoring 73 goals before eventually joining Stanford Bridge after an 18-month contract with Chelsea FC. By the end of his first season, Olivier had scored 5 goals for the Blues after playing 18 games.

Giroud’s club career in football cannot be described as anything but successful with a Ligue 1 title, 4th Cup, 1st community, as well as a number of individual awards and accolades such as the FIFA Puskás Award he won in 2017.

Before receiving the call of the French national colors, he could not represent the country in any of the national youth teams. Nevertheless, in 2011 he got a call up to the national team and went on to feature for Les Bleus in the 2014 FIFA World Cup as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Playing an important role in the country’s journey to the World Cup finals, Olivier Giroud has scored 31 goals to his name for the country after appearing in 80 matches.
