Obituary: Vin Scully’s Religion Was Roman Catholic

Vin Scully, a devout Roman Catholic, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at his home in Los Angeles.

In a tweet, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced his death. He was the enduring face of the Dodgers for all of the team’s marquee players since World War II.

The TV personality was also a national sports broadcaster for CBS and NBC. Baseball’s Game of the Week, All-Star Games, playoffs, and more than two dozen World Series were all called by him.

The American Sportscasters Association ranked him first on its list of the “Top 50 Sportscasters of All Time” in 2009.

He began broadcasting at Ebbets Field in 1950 as a slender, red-haired 22-year-old Fordham University graduate and Red Barber’s protégé.

Sandy Koufax’s perfect game against the Chicago Cubs on September 9, 1965, was one of his many memorable moments behind the microphone. His voice became more well-known when he worked for CBS from 1975 to 1982, calling baseball, NFL football, and golf.

She died at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after a battle with ALS for many years. Sandra was born on December 27, 1944, and married Vin Scully in November 1973.

While working as an executive assistant for the Los Angeles Rams in the early 1970s, she met Vin.
