Find Out Nick Webbron Injury Disability

Nick Webborn has a deeper connection with Paralympic athletes as he went through a life-threatening injury himself. He suffered a spinal cord injury back in 1981.

Webborn was a newly qualified doctor serving in the Royal Air Force at RAF Wattisham. On February 18, 1981, he was playing ruby as usual. However, when he went to retrieve one loose ball, he was badly tackled by the opponent’s flanker which caused a spinal injury.

As a doctor himself, he immediately asked for medical professionals and told them not to move him. The x-rays showed his spine was dislocated at the base of the neck and had to go through surgery. After eight months, he finally returned to work at the RAF.

Following his injury, Webborn has been actively helping people with injuries and disabilities. He has attended more than 10 Paralympic Games, and also represented Great Britain in the world team cup in wheelchair tennis.
