Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy
48 Hrs. was a 1982 American buddy cop action comedy film that was directed by Walter Hill. It was Joel Silver’s first film as a film producer. The screenplay was written by Hill, Larry Gross, Steven E. de Souza, and Roger Spottiswoode. The film starred Nick Nolte together with Eddie Murphy (in his film debut and Golden Globe Award-nominated role) as a cop and convict, respectively, who teamed up to catch two cop-killers, Billy Bear and Albert Ganz, played respectively by James Remar and Sonny Landham.
The title referred to the amount of time they have to solve the crime. Though it was predated by Richard Rush’s Freebie and the Bean, the film was often credited as being the first in the “buddy cop” genre that included Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys, and Rush Hour. A sequel, Another 48 Hrs., was released on June 8, 1990.

Nick Nolte Arrested
Nick Nolte was arrested for selling counterfeit documents in 1965, and was given a 45-year prison sentence and a $75,000 fine; however, the sentence was suspended. This felony conviction did, however, erase his military-joining eligibility – at the time, he felt obligated to serve in the Vietnam War.
As a result, he says he felt incomplete as a young man for not going to Vietnam. On September 11, 2002, he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Malibu, California. After three days, he checked himself into Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut for counseling. The tests later showed that he was under the influence of GHB.
Nolte responded that he has “been taking it for four years and I’ve never been raped. On December 12, 2002, Nolte pleaded no contest to charges of driving under the influence. He was given three years’ probation, with orders to undergo alcohol and drug counseling with random testing required.
