NFL Teams That Run The Most

NFL teams that run the most comprise Chicago Bears, New York Giants, and Philadelphia Eagles. The Bears made 558 rushing attempts.

Rushing in American Football is an offensive act that requires a Quarterback to hand off the ball to an eligible receiver before they push forward to the defensive backfield. The rush will only be accumulated once the receiver takes the ball beyond the defense’s line of scrimmage.

Running Backs (RB) is generally the traditional option for a handoff. They will line up right behind the QB and will receive the ball once the snapping occurs. The offensive linemen will strategize their positions to ensure that the RB can rush forward without the onslaught of the defensive line.

Scoring a touchdown takes place either by passing the ball or running with the ball to the end zone. The wide receivers are designed for passing gameplays, while the Running backs are for rushing plays. However, a QB or WR can also successfully conduct a rush.

1. New York Giants

New York Giants rejuvenated their running energy after successfully signing Saquon Barkley for a year. They had placed a franchise tag on him.

The former first-round pick has already demonstrated his running prowess and will seek to add great experience in the new season. Saquon has contributed 4249 rushing yards in his 4-year career.

Every Giants fan can witness QB Daniel Jones’ upward trend of rushes over the years. In the 2021 season, Jones rushed for 423 yards, and 2022 saw him making 708-yard gains. The 6’5″ Quarterback will certainly add his tall advantage for great rushes this season.

2. Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore Ravens are projected to be one of the top franchises for the most rushing team in the 2023 season.

After Baltimore Ravens successfully renegotiated a new contract with QB Lamar Jackson, it is a safe bet that we will see his magical jukes and ankle breakers once again in the Purple uniform.

Meanwhile, Ravens still retain 2022’s RBs JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards in their depth chart. They made a combined rush of more than 900+ yards.

3. Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys will also be a top team for the most running stats in the 2023 season.

The Cowboys have their RB star Tony Pollard, who is already projected to have 1122 rushing yards by Fantasy Football. Pollard has improved significantly over the years, making 1007-yard rushes in 2022 from 719 and 435 in the past years.

Moreover, their depth chart also covers Malik Davis who made his rookie debut in 2022 and will add more value with his 1-year of experience. Another player to watch is the rookie 5’5″ Deuce Vaughn, who can use his small frame to great advantage for sneak runs.

Vaughn is projected to be 3rd on the depth chart for 2023 since RB Ronald Jones recently got suspended for 2 matches.

Run Heavy Offense Playbook in NFL

Run Heavy offense NFL features reliance on running backs to make a strong rushing play through handoffs.

During this play, one or more running backs will be present in the offensive backfield for a handoff. Once the RB gets the ball, they will dash toward the defensive side to gain yardage. The Tight End will act as an extra blocker / lineman.

Run and Shoot playbook contains 4 wide receivers who will use their motion to throw off defenders. This strategy is complex to use since the QBs require a great ability to decipher where the WR will run to complete the pass successfully.

Here, WRs will change their positions unexpectedly and rapidly to establish confusion. Houston Oilers were one of the first teams who used this playbook under Coach Bum Philips. Heisman-winner QB Andre Ware also used this strategy in the late 1980s. However, this strategy is not used often at the NFL level these days.

Run and Gun offense is a short play that features quick yard gains. This playbook utilizes the RBs heavily, while the TE’s roles are less. Run and Gun can also be classified as a combo of Gun spread and Heavy formation.
