On 24th March 2022, a teenager recently fell to his death while riding an Orlando-area drop tower attraction. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office verified the news.
Soon after the accident, several law enforcement officers, firefighters, and paramedics arrived at the scene. They responded to ICON Park late Thursday evening after a 911 caller reported the incident at the popular tourist attraction on International Drive.
According to the witnesses, someone had fallen off the Orlando Free Fall ride, as they told the deputies. Later, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a 14-year-old boy was transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

According to ICON Park’s official website, the Orlando Free Fall is 430 feet tall. It is the world’s tallest freestanding drop tower. Moreover, it can accommodate 30 riders when loaded to total capacity.
The ride rotates around the central tower till it rises. Then it reaches the top, and riders tilt forward and thus face the ground briefly before free-falling nearly 400 feet, approximately 75 miles per hour.
Furthermore, the Orlando Free Fall sits adjacent to the Orlando Slingshot. According to the ICON Park website, these attractions opened in December and are owned and operated by the Slingshot Group of Companies.
