New NFL helmets 2023 will be worn by Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Chargers, and Detroit Lions.
Over the years, the National Football League has modified numerous rules and policies citing safety issues.
This year, we will see the implementation of the Forward handoff rule, read option rule, kickoff rule, and fair catch rule.
The one-helmet rule restricted the teams from using the same gear for practice and match day. It was finalized in 2013.
In 2017, Philadelphia Eagles proposed the idea of using alternate head equipment. It was supported by the remaining 31 franchises, but the league halted its proceedings. This rule was revised in 2021, and the organization relaxed it somewhat.
NFL alternate helmets came into play as a result. They were combined with the color rush attire.
New NFL helmets have been the norm for the last two years and we can expect more teams to come forward with unique concepts.
NFL Teams Alternate Helmets 2023
New NFL alternate helmets 2023 will be worn by five teams this season. In 2022, thirteen teams paired it with alternate, classic, and color rush uniforms.
Here is a complete list of teams who used two hard caps in 2022:
- Cincinnati Bengals
- New York Giants
- Atlanta Falcons
- Chicago Bears
- New Orleans Saints
- Carolina Panthers
- Houston Texans
- New England Patriots
- Arizona Cardinals
- Dallas Cowboys
- Philadelphia Eagles
- New York Jets
- Washington Commanders
The 2021 second helmet policy helped the teams get creative about their appearance and include throwback kits with new headpieces for the first time in a decade.
NFL throwback helmets helped bring back the slice of life from the past and connect a wider audience.
Following that trail, the 2023 campaign will also see the ascend of new teams, which we will discuss below.
Denver Broncos Alternate Helmet
Broncos alternate helmet 2023 was announced on social media on 4th April 2023. It was captioned ‘Coming Soon,’ and the photo displayed ‘Debuting Fall 2023.’
By the looks of it, we can assume that the franchise might opt for a white headpiece. The snowy white background and white top of the helmet can be taken as indicators.
Broncos alternate helmet will be a throwback helmet, and the roster will see with the color rush attire. According to the organization’s official site, they will sport the head protective equipment for at least two games in the 2023 campaign.
Fans have engulfed the news and shown enthusiasm to create different mockups of the shell on social media. The classic ‘D’ logo is in demand by them.
They have shown their creativity in displaying the headshell in white with the ‘D’ emblem and orange stripes. It would jell perfectly with the white as well as orange jersey.
Browns Helmet 2023
Browns alternate helmet 2023 will be a throwback shell. The final announcement about the look is yet to be declared, but we can expect a classic look from the Dawgs.
At present, Cleveland Browns and Washington Commanders are the only two groups with no logo on the headshell. It has been a staple for the club since their initial playing days.
The current-day design comes in solid brown with a brown facemask. The top of the shell consists of a white stripe between two brown stripes.
The design was introduced in 2015 and has remained the same since. In earlier phases, a similar look was implemented by the organization.
Hopefully, the new concept may bring something new, like white headgear, which can go well with the third kit.
Likewise, the franchise recently opted for a new Dawg motif. Huston Mark’s design won the logo contest organized by the Browns.
But, looking at how the organization handles their affair, we can get another solid brown shell dripped in a classic look from the 1950s or the 1960s.
Indianapolis Colts New Helmet
Colts alternate helmet 2023 will feature a vintage design from the past. They are most likely to use the royal blue tint.
They have predominantly worn white head equipment since the franchise’s debut season back in 1953.
For a couple of seasons in 1954 and 1955, the Colts were seen in royal blue, with the logo opting for white.
We may see it return in 2023 as their alternate piece.
We have seen a few changes in the shade of blue and some design changes to this date. The present-day gear is white with numbers in a navy blue letter on the back and a long stripe of blue at the top. Grey facemasks are also present.
Chargers Alternate Helmet
Chargers new helmet will introduce a navy blue alternate helmet as indicated by the team’s social media handle.
The Bolts unveiled their new kit and logi on 24th March 2020. The powder blue jersey with gold outline and the white numbered headgear with the striking lightning bolt became an instant hit.
Since then, we have not seen them make any iteration to their costume. It could very well change this year.

The franchise’s Twitter account has dropped numerous hints. The first one came with the anime-styled schedule release video on 12th March.
At the end of the clip, we can see LaDainian Tomlinson sporting a navy blue helmet. It is not the end. A May 16th tweet made everyone aware of the navy blue hard hat in the background.
Following these breadcrumbs, we can only visualize an endpoint with the franchise announcing its alternate head armor in the coming days.
Detroit Lions Alternate Helmet 2023
Detroit Lions new alternate helmet 2023 sports Honolulu blue hue, which has never been seen in any NFL head protective gear.
This is the first time in decades the Lions will use any color other than silver grey. From 1950 to 1955, they wore a blue hard hat.
It was primarily used in Preseason games. It also made nine regular-season appearances in those five years.

The unveiling of the new headgear was made public via their official Twitter handle on 21st June.
In the video, the hard hat arrives in front of the Ford Field in a Ford Mustang. It is used as a symbolic gesture to pay homage to Van Patrick, a former radio commentator active from the 1950s to the early-1970s.
The 2023 season will mark the 90th campaign of the Lions in the league, and the new equipment will be the perfect way to commemorate the team’s history in the NFL.
New Detroit Lions Helmet Design
Detroit Lions new helmet design includes a throwback logo which the franchise used in the 1960s. It is an homage to the club’s heritage.
On the top of the gear, we will see the 90th season’s emblem colored in blue and grey. The number 90 will have the 1960s logo at the bottom.
The 90th-anniversary patch will also have blue and grey vertical stripes in the team’s costume.
Likewise, a matte facemask will portray the signature color of the Lions, which they have proudly worn and have become their identity in the league.
Detroit Lions alternate helmets will be worn with the all-grey alternate attire. They will be seen in that apparel in two games in 2023.
The first one will be their week 8 Monday Night Football matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders on the 30th of October. The next one is their last regular season fixture against the Minnesota Vikings on January 7.
The last iteration was done in 2016 when the franchise introduced the silver facemasks. A blue facemask was used before that year.
Similarly, we will see the Lions in a new uniform in 2024. The change in the team’s attire will be designed by Nike.
