Earl “Ben J” Benjamin (born October 13, 1991) and Dominic “Legacy” Thomas (born October 12, 1991) from Hesperia, California, formed the hip hop/rap and jerkin’ group The New Boyz. They made their debut in summer 2009 with “You’re a Jerk,” a viral smash off their first studio album Skinny Jeanz and a Mic, which was released in September 2009. The song reached number thirty on the Billboard Hot 100, and it was the first to popularise the jerkin’ style in the United States. “Tie Me Down,” a second song starring Ray J, was also a hit, reaching the top thirty. Too Cool to Care, their second studio album, was released in May 2011. “Backseat,” starring The Cataracs and Dev, and “Better with the Lights Off,” featuring Chris Brown, are among the top 40 singles. The New Boyz were also featured on Hot Chelle Rae’s song “I Like It Like That,” which reached #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
