“The Thing About Pam,” a new limited series on NBC, is based on the twisted 2011 homicide case of Elizabeth “Betsy” Faria.
Betsy’s friend Pam Hupp quickly put the finger at Betsy’s husband, Russ Faria, after she was discovered dead in her Missouri home on Dec. 27, 2011, after being stabbed a horrific 55 times.
Despite countless discrepancies and flaws in her testimony, he became the lone murder suspect and Hupp the defendant’s key witness.
Betsy Faria Dateline Story: How Long Was Husband Russ Faria In Jail?
Russ Faria was jailed for two years until a judge gave him a new trial and found him not guilty of killing his wife.
That’s when it was revealed that he had been kept in the dark about a lot of material during his first trial, and Pamela “Pam” Hupp, the last person to see Betsy alive, was alarmed.
Not only had she been named the only recipient of a $150,000 life insurance policy owned by a close friend four days prior to the assassination, but she’d also contradicted herself multiple times during police questioning.
Similarly, Pam was also indicted with first-degree murder and armed legal motion in association with Betsy’s death in July 2021, although the latter accusation was later dismissed.
Reportedly, investigators now suspect she stabbed her victim out of greed while sleeping on the sofa, then took her socks, used them to scatter blood throughout the house to demonstrate domestic violence, and then put them on her feet.

More than 10 years ago, Betsy Faria was murdered. Russ, her husband, was mistakenly imprisoned in 2013, but after a retrial, he was exonerated. Pam Hupp was the true culprit at the time, and she was just recently condemned for the assassination of Betsy Faria last summer.
Moreover, Russ was awarded a $2 million out-of-court settlement over three police officers who he alleged “fabricated evidence” and “failed to explore the other evident scenario” in the examination of his wife’s murder.
