Tyler Randal Gibbs, known as Ty Gibbs, is a pro driver at stock car racing, competing full-time in the NASCAR Infinity Series. The championship fans are eager to learn more about him as he has a family background in the same field.
He is currently a racer for Joe Gibbs Racing, his family team, where he drives no.54 Toyota Supra. Tyler is also a part-time racer in the NASCAR Cup Series. Additionally, he is a driver for 23XI Racing, where he races with the No.23 Toyota Camry.
The young Gibbs gained his fame after the public started to know he was the grandson of the NASCAR team owner and former NFL coach Joe Gibbs. But Ty’s performance in the race has contributed significantly to his uprising.
Ty Gibbs’s Parents Are Father Coy Randall & Mother Heather
Ty was born to his caring parents on 4 October 2002 in Charlotte, North Carolina. His mother is Heather, a realtor by profession in the Charlotte area. However, his father is a renowned retired NASCAR driver and a Washington Commander assistant coach.
Unlike his mom, there is detailed information about his dad Coy Randall, who is also documented on Wikipedia. Besides being a professional racer, Ty’s dad was a footballer who played as a linebacker from 1991 to 1994 for Stanford University.
In the Craftsman Truck Series, Mr. Coy made his official debut in NASCAR in 2000 and started racing as a full-time driver. He progressed throughout his driving career, climbed the ladder, and was runner-up in the Rookie of the Year in 2003.
During his opening year, he also fulfilled his driving duties with his brother J.D. of No.18 Chevrolet. Unfortunately for Randall fans, he retired from the adrenaline-filled sports at the end of the season of the same year.
While still racing the NASCAR, the former linebacker got into an incident with Kein Harvick, which stunned many fans along with Gibbs. While competing for the Joe Gibbs Racing team in 2002, Coy got in contact with Kevin Harvick of Richard Childress Racing driver during a Truck Series at Martinsville Speedway.
As a result, the former driver spun around, ending hope in the race. When the car was turned, Randall was running third with the expectation of winning the race. Instead, after finding Harvick did it intentionally, he was fined $35,000.
Later in August 2007, Ty’s father announced of motocross racing team named Joe Gibbs Racing Motocross (JGRMX), which competes in the supercross and AMA championships.
Ty Gibbs’s Grandfather Is A Former Head Coach Of The Washington Redskins
Gibbs’s grandfather was Joe Jackson, an American auto racing team owner. He was also a former pro football coach and head coached the Washington Redskins of the NFL from 1981 to1992.
Over the course of his first twelve seasons with the Redskins, he guided them to eight playoff appearances, four NFC Championship wins, and three Super Bowl victories.
For his academics, the founders of Gibbs Racing went to Santa Fe Hugh School in 1959. He started his football career then as a quarterback and was regarded as a star. Mr.Gibbs then attended Cerritos Junior College, went to San Diego State University, and graduated in 1964. Two years later, in 1966, he added a master’s degree to his academic qualification.
After a step down from football, he formed Joe Gibbs Racing for NASCAR. Since then, the team has bagged five NASCAR Cup series. Later Joe again got into the coaching profession from 2004 to 2007. However, in 1996 he was already inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Further, he was regarded as the NASCAR Hall of Famer in 2020, which resulted in him being the only person to be a member of both sports.
Nevertheless, he expanded the wing of his racing team and entered the two-wheel category, JGRMX, which was looked after by Ty’s father, Coy Gibbs, that is based in Huntersville, North Carolina.
The Rising Star Gibbs Is Continuing His Family Legacy
19-year-old Tyler Gibbs fans believe he is following the footprint of his father and grandfather as he is competing in NASCAR. But unlike them, the rising star did not get involved in football.
His father, grandfather, and even uncle had a record of becoming a part of the football team during their collegiate level. Besides that sports, the rising Gibbs looks promising in his racing career.
He might even break his family legacy, bring in multiple wins as the NASCAR racer, and bring pride to the Gibbs. He currently holds second ranking in Xfinity Series.
Ty’s Uncle Jason Dean Is No More
Ty’s uncle Jason Dean also played football at the college level and was also a professional stock car racing driver. He played as the quarterback and defensive back at the College of William & Mary. Unfortunately, however, he is no more among us.
Jason was a father to four sons and a loving husband to his wife, Melissa. In mid-2015, he suffered from some condition related to his brain functioning. Once after his father’s return to the NFL in 2004, he served as the president of Joe Gibbs Racing and was in charge of all of the teams’ daily operations.
But after the situation, his presence in public and among the team gradually decreased as the medical condition symptoms started to grow. Finally, he passed away surrounded by his family on 11 January 2019 at his home.
