Early Life and Career Beginnings

Alisha is of Norwegian and Somali descent though her parents never married. She later moved to the US with her mother as she married an American, leading her to grow up in Los Angeles. She attended El Camino Real High School, known for imitating the styles of colleges to make it more appealing to many of its students. During this time she developed a strong interest in pursuing acting, and became a part of the school’s drama program.

After matriculating, she opted not to pursue a college education. Instead, she began looking for acting work and would start to make waves in the industry due to her Somali heritage, making her the first Somali to get leading roles since Iman.

Her first leading role would be her film debut in “Amusement”, a horror film released straight to video; she worked on it alongside Jessica Lucas, Katheryn Winnick and Laura Breckenridge. In the next few years, she appeared mostly in independent films and shorts, until in 2012 when she gained a bit of attention as she starred in “Paranormal Activity 4”, a sequel to the second film in the chronology despite being the fourth film in the series.

Television Projects

After her work in “Paranormal Activity 4”, Boe began taking television projects, mostly appearing as a guest in popular shows such as “Modern Family”, “Extant”, and “Parenthood”.

In 2014 she gained a recurring role in the soap opera “Days of Our Lives”, in which she portrayed the character, Daphne. The daytime soap is one of the longest-running of its kind in the US, following the story of several families in their day-to-day endeavors, unusual circumstances, and interactions with one another.

After a year with the show, she was cast in another recurring role, this time playing Janet during a season of “Ray Donovan”. The show aired on Showtime and started hot, breaking the record of the most watched premiere on the network. The show ran for seven seasons, and follows the titular character who works as a lawyer to the rich, often becoming involved in more seedy activities to ensure his client’s safety.

The show was suddenly canceled by Showtime without warning, which left many in shock.

Rise to Prominence

After “Ray Donovan”, Alisha returned to doing guest work in “NCIS” but then had another recurring role in the Hulu series “Casual”, which follows the story of a divorced mother living with her brother and daughter; the show gained positive reviews throughout its four-season run. She was then cast as Grace Clarke in the “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” spin-off “CSI: Cyber”, which as the name denotes, focuses more on cybercrime in the US. The show ran for two seasons before being canceled in 2016 due to low ratings.

She then made a guest appearance in the show “Teen Wolf”.

Apart from television shows, she returned to films, though she did so sporadically due to her busy schedule. She was in “68 Kill”, which starred her alongside AnnaLynne McCord and Matthew Gray Gubler, in the film based on the novel of the same name written by Bryan Smith. She also worked on the independent film “Gates of Darkness”, before getting cast in “Poms”, starring her alongside Pam Grier, Diane Keaton and Jacki Weaver in the story of a group of retired women who decide to become a cheerleading squad.

13 Reasons Why

In 2017, Boe got her most notable project so far, as she was cast as one of the main characters in “13 Reasons Why”. The teen show airs on Netflix and is based on the Jay Asher novel “Thirteen Reasons Why”, which follows the life of a student who listens to a set of cassette tapes of his close friend who committed suicide, learning more about the events before her passing. Other stars of the show included Katherine Langford, Christian Navarro, and Brandon Flynn, and which received positive reviews during its first season for its take on a sensitive subject matter.

However, its graphic depictions of issues on rape and suicide garnered some concerns which led to Netflix issuing a warning about its themes. The show was only meant to run for a season, but its success prompted a second season which in hindsight proved to be not the best move – it didn’t have the same impact and themes as the first season, leading to mostly negative reviews. The show continues to run and is set to be completed in its fourth season set to air sometime in 2020. While working on the show, Boe’s had a few other projects but her main focus has been her role here.

Personal Life

Alisha is single, and there isn’t a lot of information known about any past romantic endeavors. Many believe that she is still focused on her career and is not entertaining any long term relationships as of yet. She has been inactive from social media since early 202,0 with her last posts about completing the filming of the final season of “13 Reasons Why” which is now in post-production. She is close friends with several actresses who she spends some of her free time with, including Gideon Adlon. She also loves supporting independent and upcoming artists, by promoting their work online.
