Musical Band Hand Habits’ Member Is Just Meg Duffy And The Artist Uses “They/Them” Pronouns

Hand Habits is an indie-rock band with sole member Meg Duff and uses non-binary gender-neutral pronouns. They play guitar and have played as studio musicians on records by Weyes Blood, William Tyler, and The War on Drugs.

Duffy was one of the members of Kevin Morby’s live band. They have occasionally played for Perfume Genius. Intricate and haunting songs of Duffy are recognized for their sensitive lyricism and modest arrangements.

Duffy’s rough upbringing undoubtedly impacted how she currently feels about music. Duffy was naturally drawn to music-making from a young age since Meg was surrounded by sadness and was looking for an escape.

They moved around a lot and lived with people who weren’t family, and Duffy was a shy person growing up and didn’t say how they felt a lot.

Duffy’s’ Mother Also Played Guitar

Duffy found out their mother played guitar when they were 27 years old. Finding this thing common with their mother changed their whole perspective of what they understood their identity to be.

In terms of bloodline and legacy. They may have attributed some characteristics to their mother.

Sadly, they couldn’t learn guitar from their mother as she passed away when Meg was four years old. They posted a picture remembering their mother on the occasion of Mother’s Day.

They Led A Song Writing Workshop With The School Of Song

They have done the workshop once, but it was life-changing, and the School of Song people were great to work with.

Blue and Steven founded the School of Song to increase access to high-caliber levels for individuals of all skill levels. Therefore the workshop’s programs are highly deliberate and considerate of everyone who wants to participate.

Two hundred and ten people took Duffy’s songwriting class, and many songs were written. Duffy believes that people simply need inspiration, affirmation, and permission to write songs.

They find happiness while writing music.

They Learned Lessons By Performing In Other’s Projects

Duffy learned how to avoid shredding over songs that don’t require it. Even way back when Duffy was jamming on the guitar with songwriters in Albany, from whom they learned so much.

That was important to learn because, in music school, it’s all about you and your practice. However, when you’re in a pub, and someone is singing out their tunes, it’s not about you.

Going into recording studios to work, whether people wanted a solo, some type of chordal addition, or something to add sonic glue, made Duffy realize that the guitar is not the main event and is only there to give emotional or melodic value to a song.
