The Motels are a Los Angeles-based new wave band best known for their singles “Only the Lonely” and “Suddenly Last Summer,” both of which reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982 and 1983. In 1980, their single “Total Control” charted at No. 4 in Australia. The lead vocalist, Martha Davis (born January 19, 1951), reassembled the band in 1998 as “The Motels starring Martha Davis” and toured with different line-ups of musicians. Martha Davis and The Motels was the band’s new moniker when it was renamed in 2013. That band is now on the road throughout the globe with a lineup of musicians who have been performing with Davis for more than ten years, longer than the original Motels.
