Monique was born and raised in Miami, Florida, United States. Preliminary to graduating high school, an inductee in the Trojan Hall of Fame, Alvarez appeared in a film directed by Oscar-winning David Frankel winning best actress in South Florida’s theater competition together with an invitation from 14 universities to attend their theater programs.

At Florida State University, Monique majored in theater and communication which was inducted into the University’s Hall of Fame earning a theater scholarship to train in London, UK. During that time, she trained together with Olivier-winning Clare Higgins, Olivier-nominated playwright Mark Wheatley and also Shakespeare & Company with Tina Packer. She has worked on projects that have voiced on networks nationally, including for NBC.

While at FSU, Monique co-creator FSUnited, an initiative which was inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was countersigned by the university aiming to unite students and groups, faculty, staff and also the city through activism, inclusion and community-building.

Prior to graduating, she was admitted into the FSUnited Hall of Fame. A supporter of VDAY, Monique is performed in the Vagina Monologues many times as part of the national campaign to stop violence against women.

A supporter of blood donations also, she rallied students to donate record-breaking pints of blood in different cities. She co-chaired the FSUnited and City of Tallahassee “MLK Day,” continuing the work of Martin Luther King, Jr., for three successive years with her focus on presenting a Mentorship Program among students and the city’s youth.
