Rachel Lauren Stevens, an English singer-songwriter, actor, presenter, dancer, television personality, and model, was born on April 9, 1978. She was formerly a member of the popular pop group S Club and began a solo music career in 2003.
Between 2003 and 2005, she released seven singles and two albums in the UK. She and her dancing partner Vincent Simone finished second in the sixth season of the BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing in 2008.
At the age of twenty, Stevens joined the British pop band S Club 7, which was founded by Simon Fuller, the former manager of the Spice Girls and winner of a BRIT Award. The trio gained notoriety with their own BBC television program, the sale of 16 million records globally, and the release of four number-one hit singles in the UK. S Club finally disbanded in 2003.
She was chosen by UK readers of FHM magazine as the second-sexiest woman in the world in 2001 and 2002.
After S Club split up, Stevens re-joined Fuller and signed a four-album, £1.5 million ($2.3 million) solo deal with Polydor Records. Stevens said it was difficult to go it alone after being successful with S Club: “I believe we [S Club] ended up conforming to what people’s preconceptions were. This individual was a flirty singer and dancer.
