Michael Schumacher is a German former racing driver who competed in Formula One for Jordan, Benetton, Ferrari, and Mercedes.

The seven-time World Champion suffered a horrific skiing incident in 2013 which caused him a severe brain injury.

He had retired from sport just months earlier and was enjoying a skiing holiday in the French Alps.

Schumacher suffered a horrific ski crash while with his son Mick, who was 14 at the time, on the slopes above Méribel in the French Alps on December 29, 2013.

He fell and hit his head on a rock, and sustained a severe head injury, despite wearing a helmet.

After being air-lifted to a hospital in Grenoble, he underwent two surgeries to remove blood from his brain and relieve the pressure and was placed in a medically induced coma to help reduce swelling in his brain.

Michael Schumacher was brought out of the coma in June 2014 and was released to go and rehabilitate at his home in Switzerland.

Since then the Schumacher family has kept details of his current state of health under wraps.
