By the time he was 13 years old, Rhodes, who was raised in Monroe, Louisiana, had taught himself how to play the bass and the guitar. Early in the 1970s, Rhodes moved to Austin, Texas, where he joined local bands. Four years later, Rhodes moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he worked on stage projects with Charlie Rich’s son Alan.
Michael Rhodes, a bassist in high demand, played on a lot of albums and tours over the course of more than 50 years. Only a select few were fortunate enough to work with him because of his high demand. Although having a rustic upbringing, his presence enhanced music in general.
In addition to these supergroups, Rhodes collaborated in a number of ensembles with a wide range of well-known musicians. He was well-recognized among musicians for his talent and sense of humor. Many people were shocked by his departure on March 4th, and tributes from his musical contemporaries have flooded in.
Until at least January 6, 2020, Michael Rhodes collaborated with Joe Bonamassa, according to an exclusive video interview with FBPO’s Jon Liebman. There is no record of Rhodes’ departure from Bonamassa, therefore it is unclear exactly when this occurred.
