Metric Band Explains How Their New Album “Formentera” Was Their Light In Pandemic Period

The Metric band says that their recent album, Formentera, is the most important in their career other than their first one.

Metric is a Canadian rock band that came into existence in 1998 and had over two decades of history in the music industry.

It has four members in the group, Emily Haines, James Shaw, Joshua Winstead, and Joules Scott-Key, but it was only a duo at the beginning, with Haines and Shaw as the founding members. Known for its unique and energizing style, the band specializes in indie rock, new wave, post-punk revival, and synth-pop genres of music.

Metric is a well-recognized rock band with seven previous studio album releases with thousands of followers. Formentera is their eighth album in their two-decades-long career and the only album in their last four years. Ths recently dropped collection has nine pieces of music, representing different vibes and emotions of the members.

They made these pieces of music during the lockdown period and didn’t just make it for the sake of it but created the themes with passion and care to eventually label them one of the most important projects of their whole career.

Metric New Album Formentera Review

The Metric band’s new album, Formentera, has nine songs. They represent the band’s whole career in the industry and illustrate how they moved on through the uncertainty of the pandemic.

Here is the list of Formentera’s nine songs that you can easily stream on various platforms.

  • Doomscroller
  • All Comes Crashing
  • What Feels Like Eternity
  • Formentera
  • Enemies of the Ocean
  • I Will Never Settle
  • False Dichotomy
  • Oh, Please, and
  • Paths in the Sky

The group’s lead vocalist, Emily Haines, explained how the album means something precious to all the members as they made it at such a difficult time, going through various uncertain emotions. While many rushed on for survival in the competitive music world, Metric focused on quality and took their time to make a “whole other level” of songs.

Speaking with the NME, Haines also stated that the album’s opening song, Doomscroller, is what they define as an “epic” song that they hope to carry the band for the next 20 years. The 10-minute-long song goes through various phases of music, such as electronica, full-on rave anthem style, and ends with a calm and relaxing sense of sound.

Similarly, the next song from the collection, All Comes Crashing, portrays a buzzing vibe among the audience, while What Feels Like Eternity showcases the tension and stress of something important. The lady also compared this piece with something like a Nike commercial, with a lot of focus, training, and intensity.

However, not all songs are in the epic category of music like Doomscroller, as the other pieces depict the Metric band we know with a focus on Indie rock and different known genres.
