Meet The New YouTube CEO Neal Mohan Family

Neal Mohan family consists of his parents Dr. Aditya Mohan And Dr. Deepa Mohan. Neal grew up alongside two brothers named Kapil Mohan and Anuj Mohan.

Anuj Mohan Passed Away In 2006

Neal lost his younger sibling Anuj in 2006. Born on April 9, 1976, Anuj spent the early years of his childhood in the US before shifting to India in 1985. 

Mohan eventually came back to the US for his higher education. He completed his bachelor’s and masters at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 

After completing his education, Anuj joined KANA Communications in Silicon Valley. Similarly, he was also the founder of the Software Entrepreneurship Lecture Series.

As per San Mateo Daily Journal, Anuj drowned in a local swimming pool on May 17, 2006. While he was initially revived, Mohan suffered brain damage due to the lack of blood flow.

The younger brother of the YouTube CEO remained in a coma-like state in the hospital for almost four weeks before passing away on June 11. The official cause of his death was announced as an infection in his brain.

Anuj was only 30 years old at the time of his death. After his demise, the Mohan family set up a scholarship called the Anuj Mohan Scholarship.

Kapil Mohan Is A Product Manager At Indeed

Neal’s youngest brother Kapil Mohan is a graduate of the University of Southern California. He now works as a Senior Product Manager for the American employment website Indeed.

As per his LinkedIn, Kapil’s job description includes targeting and bidding optimization. He has designed bidding algorithms that help ideal Job Seeker candidates match with prospective employers. 

Mohan joined Indeed in August 2021 and worked as a Product Manager for over a year. He was promoted to the position of Senior Product Manager in January 2023.

He previously worked for companies like Zenreach, Quantcast, The Clorox Company, InsightExpress, and more.

Talking about his educational background, Mohan has a BA degree in Economics for the University of Southern California. He attended the University of San Francisco for completing his Master’s in Internet Marketing.

Neal Mohan wife Hema Sareen Mohan is a former senior aide of the California senate. Hema has worked for non-profits for more than 20 years. 

As of now, Mohan is a board member of the Institute for Research in the Social Sciences which falls under Stanford University. 

Additionally, she serves on the boards of The Phillips Brooks School, the Child & Family Institute, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula. 

Hema worked under former California State Senator Joe Simitian during his reign from 2004 to 2012. She served as his District Director as well as his Non-profits Liaison. 

During her employment in the California Senate, Sareen worked on changing the entry age for kindergartens and pioneered a new grade called transitional kindergarten. The concept is now being practiced by many public schools in California. Likewise, her area of operation also includes the reform of education and the juvenile justice system.

Born in New York, Hema has a political science degree from Hunter College in New York along with an MPA degree from Columbia University.

Neal Mohan kids are the two sons and one daughter he shares with Hema Sareen Mohan. The family of five lives in San Bruno, California.

The YouTube CEO has remained mostly private about his children and married life. 

Although his Facebook profile picture has an image of Mohan with one of his sons, he has not revealed any additional details about any of his children. The photo shows the father-son duo enjoying their Shanghai trip.

Likewise, Mohan also has a daughter, who is roughly nine years old in 2023.

The tech executive hasn’t opened up much about his children in the media. He wants to raise his kids away from the camera.

Neal Mohan parents are Dr. Aditya Mohan and Dr. Deepa Mohan of Mountain View, California. Neal dad and mom are both Ph.D. doctors.

Dr. Aditya moved to the US with his wife Dr. Deepa after he got an opportunity to attend Purdue University for his doctorate program. At the time, Deepa supported the family financially, while Aditya pursued his degree.

After completing his education, the Mohan family moved back to India as he wanted to use his skills in his home country. Although their three sons returned to the US, the couple remained in India.

Aditya and Deepa were forced to return to the US after he suffered kidney failure in the early 2000s. Their middle son Anuj Mohan helped with the visa process, and within six weeks, they were back in the US.

Mohan eventually received a kidney transplant nearly six months before Anuj’s death in 2006. 

On the other hand, Neal’s mother took Urban Geography as the subject of her Ph.D. program.
